The E36 M3 is a value that is hard to beat. A low 14 second 1/4 mile time is still respectable even today and bone stock the cars handle very well. For $8-$16,000, they are hard to beat.
The E30 is more tossable and lighter, but the E36 feels much more solid. I can feel every little bump in my e30 and there are times when (even with all the E36 shit I have on my car) the car does something that reminds me it was built in 1988. The E36 is more isolated but road feel is not lost. Basically you still "feel" everything you want to in the E36 but they cut out the stuff you do not want to feel. At 120mph I felt much safer in my friends E36 M3 then in my E30.
The E30 is a go cart.
The E36 is a sports sedan with a go cart spirit.
Enjoy the car and who gives a fuck what any one else thinks.
