thats great, e30s make great reliable transport. but what we're saying is that buying a car that expensive is a bad idea. look for a good condition 325 of some sort

You want "reliable transportation", but are looking at taking out a multi year loan on another 15 year old car?

First off, an e30 m3 would be suicide for a daily driver on a budget. If you're desperate for an e30 DD, then you can find plenty of m20 powered cars in the 2-4k range. If you're really looking to spend 10k on a loan, find a nice later model e36.

why not just drive it stock or close to it, if you spend a shitload of money on it, that doesnt solve anything...I dont really differentiate between spending a lot on a car purchase or spending a lot modding....

It's that simple, find a co-signer with ok credit and your problems are over.........
Only way. No bank would loan 10k on a car that is blue book worth 3500. Even for 300 they wouldnt mess with a car that old. Not profitable enough.

Go for a personal loan get raped at like 9%.

Why not consider a brand new E46?

If you sell your current E30, that will cover the down payment on a base line 2004 325.

Then you can make monthly lease payments for the next 2-4 years on a brand new BMW that will never need anything. Brakes, oil changes, belts, and other wear/tear items are now covered under a lease.

If you can afford the monthly repair payments on an E30 M3, you can cover the monthly payments of a baseline 325.

                  Eric
Soon to be BMW car salesman

P.S. If you just need reliable transportation, put $1500 down and pay $150 a month for a Civic. A decent car for chump change.

WHOOOO lets hear it for the med school people!!! Here are my two cents..... buy yourself a e30 325is owned by someone that has had the car fro the past 10 years. Slowly, if you have money to spare while you are in school.... do the mod thing. In 2 years time you will have youself a pretty hooked up e30. The key is to buy it from someone that took care of the car for a long time. I did that and my car has 276K.... and it still pulls stronger then anything.

getting an e46 is tempting but, I'd rather have an e30 since I don't see those everyday so its more exclusive.

                        Beggers can't be choosers.

Plain and simply, you don't have the budget (or money sense) to keep up what you WANT. What you NEED should be much more important. If daily reliability is what you crave now, listen to Eric and look for the leased Bimmer or CIvic (or similar cars). Though e30 M3s (or any e30s) are more "exclusive", how does that help your pocketbook?

Be reasonable here. Go and pick up a decent 325e you can beat up on daily. You can get one for $500-1500. MINIMAL upkeep costs. And you'll have your current ride for weekends or in case of a pinch.

I'd also like to point out the costs of school. And then I'll point out the costs of MED SCHOOL. You don't need to be putting yourself in any more debt than you already are going to be. Just suck is up and be practical here. You CAN be practical and still own good, quality BMWs.

Go to a credit union, they usually have lower rates and they will usually give you a loan for an older car. I'm guessing you're pretty young so you'll probably need a co-signer to get any sort of loan from any bank.

Buy something cheap and reliable, and something you can afford to maintain. Skip the mods... you shouldn't be modding a car if you can't buy it outright, especially an E30 where even a decent set of wheels and tires can cost 1/3 what the car is worth. On top of that, using a loan to be able to afford mods is not a good idea at all.

If you can afford payments on a $10k car, buy a certified pre-owned Honda Civic.

i saved up enough to buy my e30 while i was on cali unemployment, and paying $600/mo rent out of it... and i'm perfectly happy w/ my car.

i agree w/ the above, you don't *need* an m-tech cabrio or something of the sort... just save up a while and find a decent 325i/is.
