I had to jump to a 15amp fuse. When the HID starts it starts just like a flourescent light. It supplys 18kv for a few seconds to ignite the xenon halides but once those get up to 800 and ignite the sulfur/mercury then it just drops to the 4 volts needed to keep the arc.

I (and many others) have been running the higher fuses for some time. Like said it only needs it for a couple seconds.
    Im now E30less.

How did u mount the bulbs in your US ellips? Did you do anything to secure them in the 9006 housing?

i have the phillips bulbs, and they are mostly white with a lil blue, so i would say around 6000k...

as far as the fuse blowing...i would say upgrade the fuse...i didnt have to change mine, yet...

oh and these were the DS2's from a mercedes...i had to dremel out the base a lil to fit into the 9006, then i placed it where it was secure, and hot glued the back with the black type of glue...as far as making it fit the 9006. i just cut off the 9006 plug and hardwired in the balast.

If you ever have to change the bulbs how will you remove them if they are hot glued in?

ok the shit hit the fan on this one...the bulb came loose and was hitting the side of the housing...well, needless to say, i smelled burning, pulled over, and popped the hood... suprise!!! the bulb had melted through the side of the housing and was half covered in melted plastic...fragged... scratch one HID bulb...

to make things even better, for some reason on the other side, the beam pattern is reversed... meaning that instead of the beam being focused in the middle like its supposed to be, its focused on the sides, and dark in the middle. damn, any help??

Probably means your bulb is in the wrong spot.

This makes me fear home made kits. The rebased bulbs I have seen have all been using a ceramic or plaster base.

Yea i'm with you Ryan. I see these kits going for 300 bucks on ebay, but there is no real way to secure the bulb in the housing. I really don't want to destroy my euro ellips either by the bulb melting the houseing. Are there any real kits out there that we can use?

One guy who is now on R3v but asked me questions on HID was sweetride01. He has had good luck with a kit he bought and I am thinking about getting the kit and changing the wiring around and putting it in the M3.

Misterjung used plaster bases but he is MIA now.

I've seen some kits in germany, HID bulbs with the H1 socket
Maybe can Greg clear some things out

I've secured my Phillips HID bulb the the spring that secures the H1
                          no problems gotten

                          (Pillips bulbs and Hella ballasts)

Anybody ever try this 9006 kit? http://www.umnitza.com/product_info....ba8ba761ed8703
They have a 5 year warranty and it seems a lot of people buy their stuff over on bimmerforums.
