Comparison of ATHLON vs. INTEL Processors, isitjustasgood?
I have an Athlon 1600+ (about 1.6 GHz), and I like it, but it locks sometimes. I've heard that AMD processors like to develop a nasty habit of just locking up out of the blue. Pretty much the only reason I have it is because it was given to me. Just buy P4, you'll be happier with the performance.
Now for the most part yes. Only for Desktops though. The Intel stepped system saves a crap load of power so with Intel laptops run cooler and batteries last longer.
in this days all the processors are shit like the PC's and all the rest of things...the newer the things the more shit are...I'm pissed with the damm PCs, I'd change three times my damm PC and still it get lock or whatever is called...I think I got both of those processor at sometime...

I've got a P4 2.8gHz system I built myself, and it's much more reliable than any of my friends' Athlon XP systems.
"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

For Mobile Laptops = Intel Pentium-M
For Desktop Replacement Laptops = Athlon64
For Gaming Desktops = Athlon64
For Mainstream PC's = Intel Penitum 4
For Servers = Intel XEON
ive always heard that the AMD's are slightly faster when compared with a Pentium with comprable specs, but i can not say ive noticed a difference. ive used Athlon, P4, and Celeron notebooks, and all i can say is the celeron sucked major ass. celerons run way too hot for notebooks and freeze within 1-2hrs, and it also had trouble booting up XP. but for the Athlon vs Pentium debate i could not notice a difference between a 2.0ghz Athlon and a 1.8ghz P4 (with equal ram), both never froze on me, but the P4 would sometimes have trouble logging onto windows although it did use far less power on the notebook battery.
I am a diehard AMD supporter, I put them in every computer I build, whether its for a server, desktop, or even a simple network client computer for just running a browser or whatever.
AMD's used to be a world of difference apart from Intels (K6 processors vs Pentium II and III), but nowadays, they are getting closer. AMD run hotter on average, and *supposedly * less stable, but I dont buy any of that horseshit. If you put a proper fan on an AMD (Vantec Aeroflow), you will not have any problems. As far as them locking up, I have never had a problem with that since the Barton XP's and 64's came out. My server at work up has been up for 4.5 months, running an old Athlon T-Bird 1.4GHZ 200 FSB.
Now, if you really want to start a war, ask which is better, Linux or Windows :-)
Edit: All of these "XP's are less stable" comes down to the level of computer knowledge you have (background programs, motherboard selection, quality of RAM, etc..)
Hell, I bet you my mother could lock up a P4 in 20 seconds if she had free reign on a computer :-)

personally i have an amd 2500+xp processor in my comp, any my dad has the same.
and my friends also have 2200xp and so on...no problem here, put a nice fan on amd processors and you can overclock them till the sun comes down.
I'm running an AMD Thunderbird 1200MHz (overclocked to 1267 8)) . I've had it since 2001 and it hasn't let me down. They tend to run a bit warmer than the Intels, but that's nothing a good Alpha Heatsink and an ultra-high rpm Delta Fan can't fix.
hell now that where on tis topic....does anyone have pimp out cases?????LOL
I wouldn't say that mine is 'pimped out', but I sanded down all of the texture on it and put a couple of coats of dark metallic blue on it and about 15 coats of clear. I also have 3 fans on the side (which aren't on anymore because they're too noisy lol).
