I should have been following this thread a little more the last few days - quite amusing...
Hey it's not my problem if you have to put others down to make yourself feel better... I put a deposit down on a Ducatti but Megan put her foot down. I have 3 2002's an e30 and about 4 cars worth of parts... if she says no to the bike I'll live with it. We chose the ped because she'll ride it AND in Massachusetts a moped with pedals does not need insurance, m'cycle license or anything special. You can park it at a bike rack, don't get tickets, get 135mpg, etc. etc...
That's actually where we got the idea of it - and that I've spent a few summers in the Caribbean (Antigua and Bermuda) and I had either a RHD Nissan pickup or a scoot to get around on. Here in Boston they are very popular - call it a trend, metrosexual, whatever... I'm able to get around for almost nothing, quicker, my girlfriend will ride it and it keeps the e30 off the road. In Europe this is a standard for transportation... we here are just too pig headed to relize that.
I bought a 1974 Vespa Ciao moped which is a 49.77cc motor(that's 3.03 cubic inches). I've already purchased (ebay) three other motors (90cc, 100cc & 120cc) that I will take the cylinder, head, crank & rod from and I'm going to build a little ripper of a moped. It'll be a ~100cc motor, roughly 6 cubic inches, roughly 15whp and still will get over 100mpg. On that little thing it'll accelerate with any car and no matter what you say - they are fun! Try riding one someday and you'll see.... totally different than a bike, totally different than a bicycle.... plain old funComment

Listen pal... I wasn't putting you down.... and if you would have read my other responses you might have realized that.... but I see you selectively choose one snippet... and decided to run with that....
Also, I have traveled to 20+ countries.... but I appreciate your worldly observations..... globetrotter..... to make matters worse, I actually owned a Vespa while doing contract work in Italy... for the simple reason it made sense, and it wasn't a "fashion" accessory....
I am dying to know one thing.... just how far is your commute to work?.....

I am reading with interest some of the comments where it seems that some guys are so sexually-challenged that it takes them the biggest possible vehicles to reaffirm their manhood. It's so funny.
Weither we are talking about scooters or moped, they are a great choice in summer for short or medium commutes. They park easily around town and cost much less in fuel and parts than a regular car, or a Humvee. What's not to like about that? All over Europe, you can see men and women, all dressed up in business suits commuting to work on their scooter. That's the brilliant choice. If I lived around any big American town, I would buy one of those Japanese scooters thing. I own several BMWs but when having to do stuff in town, I take the subway, ride my bicycle or even walk.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Of course, if you're willing to spend some real money on it, you could always import a C1

Might be a bit more power then you're looking for though.Comment
