    H1 bulbs for euro ellipsoids

I am going to be getting some H1 bulbs for my new smoked ellipsoids coming in the mail today. I know a lot of you use the Osram Silverstars...I use the Sylvania Silverstars.

Is there a reason why you guys all use 55W bulbs for yours instead of the 85W or 100W? I mean having those headlights is already illegal anyway. The projector lens keeps the light out of other drivers' eyes anyway, right?

because it can melt the housings. there was a dude with E34 smoked hella's (the real thing), he ran some japanese 100w bulbs and totally melted the housings. definetly not worth it! spend $30 on silverstars and save for HID.

Wow, I think I remember seeing that post. Thanks for the warning! I currenlty have some H1 high beams in my sealed beam conversion I got from www.autooptiks.com. They are "130W", but in reality are probably more like 100W bulbs. They are unGodly bright and I haven't had any problems with them, but then again, they are high beams and I rarely need to use them. I did have to put in a higher rated fuse to run them though.

You really don't want to run anything more than a 65watt bulb in the ellips due to the plastic housings. I remember that picture that 'nando' (Chris) referred to above. The whold damn thing was melted.
Just do yourself a favor and go to http://www.cars.u-net.com/bulbs.htm and email them and get some Osram Silverstar H1s. At least for the low beams.

I run 80 watts, they rock. But that's in Hella H4's. The bucket is metal and the lens is glass so there is no meltage. I have run them for maybe 2 years now.

I think you were talking to me, but my name is not Avi. It's Ken, hence my s/n "KenCopperwheat". (But maybe you weren't talking to me... ;) )

Anyhow, that company is in the UK. They take PayPal too. I bought two pairs of lights from them. Shipping was like $5 and I got them (Im in Oregon) in 4 days. They're excellent to work with. Email Les (the guy that handles orders) and get some Osram H1s.

My bad Ken. Avi....Shit aint that a slap in the face? 8) j/k man. So the h1's will fit into the low beams w/o modification? And what size for the high beams? Might as well replace them all. This is the first set of ellips I've had. I was packin sealed beams on the 325 3.0 Used the off raoders from bav auto.

whoa there...are you trying to fit H1 bulbs into EURO ellips, or US ellips?

they will work with the former, not with the latter.

If you have US ellips, go pick yourself up some 55W Sylvania XtraVisions (in the pink and black package) in 9005 fitment, then dremel off the extra tab so they'll fit the lowbeams.

I just clipped it of with a pair of diagonal cutters for my dads 7 series.

YOu also have to flatten out the indexes inside the plug itsself too.
                              Im now E30less.
