I am glad BMW is building a smaller car finally. Might not be that small, but at least it's a start.

And it had better be a lot lighter...

it will be slower than the 335i even though it is lighter and has the same engine.

me thinks the 135i engine will have different internals and be de-tuned. but an e30 it is not.

Slower than a 335i even though it is lighter with the same engine ??? Isn't that kinda redundant?? From what I have read there is nothing saying different internals and anything about detuned at all... and as a matter a fact what I read was that the 135i was the same motor as the 335i

No hatch, no care. Why the fuck don't North Americans like hatchbacks?

            Keep it slideways!!

^^ +1. I went to the UK a few weeks ago and I LOVED their selection of hatchbacks.

Makes me wonder why Subaru just made the imprezza a hatch, Mini's sell so well, MazdaSpeed3, Chevy aveo, Saabs prior to Gm ownership, etc. The e36 318ti didn't sell well, must be americans don't like hatchbacks.

Because impreza sells itself? expensive hb's don't sell here at least (look at a3's).

nope, not the new e30 until they make 500,000 of them, and used ones are cheap as hell.

                    So no.

logic dictates that the 135i should be faster. well at least they'll market the 135i as performance slower than the 335i. theyre not going to kill the 335i sales by saying the 135i is faster.

so either they'll severly underrate 135i's HP/TQ rating or they'll detune the engine.

I'm pretty sure BMW has already officially quoted HP figures at 300 and 0-60 times lower than the 335i. The two cars are in different classes, sales won't be noticiably affected. By that logic, the 335i would be killing sales of the 535i...

how or why would they post a weight when the cars not done yet?
sorry i just dont see it, not saying your lying im just saying that cant be right and must be a typo or miss quote.
You're not saying I'm lying, you're saying I'm wrong. Its one thing to ask for a source, but don't call me wrong unless you have conflicting data from another source. I don't like it either, but that weight is straight out of the UK 1 series coupe brochure: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678

                              1560kgs =~ 3439lbs

Its only fair to note that BMW (and almost, if not, all european manufacturers) includes the weight of the driver and 'luggage' in their figures. Which equates to about 165lbs. They also quote it with a 90% full tank of gas, figure about 77lbs for that. These additions are dictated by European Directive 95/48/EC, drafted in 1995.

Its equally fair to note that my quote for the 335i's weight includes the same things, making my 132lb difference still completely valid. You might be able to knock off 4 or 5lbs saying the 335i has a slightly large gas tank and thus 90% of a 335i gas taken contains 1 or 2 more gallons of gas. Total nitpicking at that point though.

If it was feesible and I could afford to do it, I would buy a 1 series just so I could put the body over a Z3 or Z4 chassis and whip up on the ricers really bad.
