    Short shift kit or wheels?

I'm getting both, but at the meantime I only really have enough money for one... As far as my shifter, I have 4+ inches of play in each gear... Should I spend a shitload on a uuc kit or just put my own parts together? As far as wheels go, I plan on getting 16X8 rota slipstreams as they look nice and are more in my budget. Opinions please.

get some OEM shifter $70 is not bad. then the rest of your money buy the rims that you want. if it's not enough your $$$ then wait. IMO

Rims, z3 1.9 (or eq) w/ new bushings and it should stiffen that shifter up.

Just buy a SSK using OEM Z3/Z4 parts.

I have a 1.9 shifter and its okay, but I will go with a UUC race shifter when I have the funds, 1.9 is flimsy compared to my 24 year old stock shift lever. And 50+% of your play comes from worn shift carrier bushings, not the lever.

Um ya, that's why you replace all of the bushings too...

Are you implying that the other 50% of the 'play' comes from the lever? I'd venture a guess that >1% of it does... if that.

What do you mean the 1.9 is flimsy? Can you easily bend the thing by hand?

I was wondering the same thing.

                        No you think?

I only sell poly and derlin bushings for sheet metal and aluminum consoles.

But the internal bushing in the shift lever makes it flimsy.

I really do not think a brand new OEM BMW lever was going to be that bad. The only benefit of there being flex in a shift lever is if you slam the lever into the gear and flex would cushion the shift a smidge.

Take care of your shifter issue before going with wheels. I'd rather have a car that works good than a car that looks good but doesn't work good

Use oem parts and replace whatevers worn, much more cost effective than a UUC kit although they are nice units. I used the Z4 2.5 lever and replaced everything that I could think of, it was good enough for me and was cheap.
