Get a soldering iron and heat up the contact points to remove and solder back in.

Alright i cannot get this thing. Does anyone have any other ideas? I have tried heating up the contact points, but it doesnt seem to do any good. Do you all know someone that i could take the thing to? I dont think a mechanic but maybe an electrician or something? Or would any of you be able to put this chip in there for me? Ill ship it to you.

You don't know what you are doing - STOP right now.

I would suggest you take it to a TV/VCR repair shop (hard to find now-a-day)

Tell them what you want to do - if you insist doing it your self get a "solder sucker" from radio shack, and some solder wick. Heat the solder, and suck up the solder. Finish with the solder wick if need be.

If you don't know what you are doing, you'll more then likely ruin the PCB(the circuit board) in the process by "lifting" the pads (separating the traces off the board)

Sure you are replacing the right chip?

I am pretty sure it is the right chip. I didnt really persue the soldering method because i am pretty sure i would screw it up. But Thanks for the advice and I will definately see if i can find a TV/VCR place. Much appreciated!

I don't think you're pulling the right chip.

It should pop out using clips.

I don't know of any E30 ECU's that used soldered chips.

ok i was wondering about that. Wok help orient me if you would. When looking at the ECU there are 2 chips that are going to be in the bottom right hand quadrant of the ECU. The one closest to the bottom is the one that i was going after. There is another one that is more elevated than the others and has a black plastic housing over it. Is that the one i should be after?

My 84 325e had a chip that you could not pop out.

maybe, but he has a 153 ecu at the very least, and it's definitely not soldered to the board.
