    for all you slushbox owners

just wondering how aggressive you drive? are these autos prone to fail around 100-150K?

I'm looking at an auto with about 110K and wondering if I should buy it or not.

regardless of that, hold out for a manual. it will be worth it.

Well, I'm halfway into negotiating for a mtech cabrio so I need to know the risks involved.

mtec2 cabrio is a bit different. Just save up for a manual swap as soon as possible so if the auto craps you can keep on truckin...

A 5 speed conversion kit isn't too much, if the car is in good condition and it is everything you want except the tranny just do the swap it is pretty straight forward.

my cabrio has 220k miles with on it original tranny (not original motor) and it shifts wonderfully. the car has been driven agressivly by me for the last 30k and the previous owner I think did auto-x so the tranny wasn't babied

if serviced the auto car and the auto box are very easy on the Engine and the torque converter takes all the punishment so if anything starts to go its would be that!

Test it for noise and how well it goes into drive and neutral by selecting the gears and note the amount it jerks might be just a simple fluid change or the Converter is worn.
Also the seals are a problem on them but easy to correct.

Our 86 528e is an auto and has 300k on the chassis I have no idea if the tranny has ever been replaced it shifts pretty good but has a good Clunk when changing gears but that is more likely rear end bushings.

I figure 90% of the time, I use my car in DD situations. The other 10% is on late night spirited runs so even with my m42 I don't go all out with it. Going to autoX's I'm paranoid about something breaking so I don't really push my car to the limit.

For right now I just need a car to ride in style with more torque. :)
