What do you guys think about an e32? DD

I was looking at a 88 735i as a daily for the wife. I know that the engine is a tank but does anyone have any experiences living with a 7? Thanks all input......

Reliable, quiet, comfortable, gulp gas, pain in the ass battery location, dumb ass fuse underneath the car..... They're ok. My friend who has one now wants an e30.

i had a 89 735il. strong car. good trans. but just like every other 5 and 7 series only about half of the " convenience " features worked. my rear hydraulic suspension was shot. at the tune of 3-400 dollars a piece never got fixed. the dash has multiple motors in it to adjust airflow automatically. yeah, i got defrost and dash heat, but none to the floor. make sure to check the support bearing on the driveshaft. thats one of the more problematic areas.

            My dad's got a '92 735iL.

I would recommend you not get one.

Good advice. A family friend used to have one....seemed to nickle-dime 'em often. BMW has better offerings. The E28 and E34 5ers have good reputations for reliability/durability.

20 year old "premium" luxury car with dozens of features to break, to use as a DD for your SO.

Yea, I wouldn't make that call.

know what you are getting into...

having owned one personally I want to give both positives and negatives...
positives; solid car, very reliable, electronics not as bad as everyone makes them out to be, everything was working including the ac when i had my car at 185k and sold it, interior held up nicely as well as exterior, very roomy and comfortable on long trips.
negatives; suspension will need to be redone for sure, automatic tranny left a lot to be desired and is often the weakest part of the car, heavy car not very fuel efficient, not a very fun car to drive overall.
In general I wouldn't get it for a daily, its great for long trips or if you are planning on getting away for the weekend. For a daily driver I'd recommend an e34. The only real reason to go for an e32 over some of the other offerings is if you really need the space (transporting big passangers all at once) otherwise for a daily a smaller car will be way more fun to drive and fuel efficient.
my dos centavos....GL in your search.

Thanks friends, I went and test drove 2 today and both had a good ac, tranny, and engine, but both had lots of little problems that if you didn't look at it in depth you might not notice...........maybe a e34 for the wife..........

E34 sounds like a much better choice and they are still pretty affordable.

I'd stear clear. My mom had an e34, and that thing fell the hell apart. I'd really stear clear of that vintage 5/7 series from my personal experience.

I wouldn't get a E32. the E32 and E34 are very similar. I spent over 3k last january on replacing the whole suspension under my E34 M5... last night when braking from 100kph to 60kph i got the steering wheel shake. I about punched the fucking windshield!

the E38 is cheap now, and is much more reliable. or get her an E36 4-door, common, but not a bad car

Buy a 535is, they are cheap, fun to drive and reliable

ROFL, people are calling the E38s more reliable than the E32. The E38 is just a newer chasis so it's less worn out. E38s are plagued by suspension problems, traditional BMW cooling system problems and valley plates/valve cover gaskets that seem to constantly leak.

Neither one is a GOOD choice for a reliable DD. I love the E38 cars but I wouldn't recommend one as a reliable DD.
