BMWs (Finally) Get Brembo Brakes OEM...

    #2
Good to see the Bavarians will be equipping their new cars with better stopping power. That's been one of the more common gripes I've heard from BMW owners who occasionally track their car(s).

BMW has had engines nicely dialed for a while. Now it'll stop as good as it goes.

Ate is a pretty good brake manufacturer. BMW brakes stock are fine, usually all that needs to be done is upgrade the pads. Although while driving an e60 M5 I was able to get a pretty decent amount of brake fade just on the street exiting the highway over and over...

Brembos do have that "bling" factor to them tho!

What does this mean for BMW-specific BBK manufacturers?

Also, now we can stop calling them "Porsche Big Red Calipers".

Pathetic it took so long. Now if they can only make a car around 3000lbs that is actually nice to look at.

I wonder about Brembo's on production cars. They are making lesser models for some production cars. I wonder if they are the monoblock type or are bolted together.

They most certainly will not be monoblocks....too expensive. In general, the Brembos calipers used on production cars are not great. The Brembos that came stock on the STi and the Evo were not very good. I would say the calipers for the 135 will be good, but not the dogs bollocks as the British would say.

teh Brembos were on a whole bunch of 7 series here as well from the 90s. just painted black.

cool anyway though. Now I am sure a set of pads will run 200 euros instead of the overpriced 100 they were.

True. Monoblocks are expensive, harder to maintain, and basically unnecessary on a road car anyway. Brembo's 2-piece calipers would be fine for this application.

Don't know if I'd agree. The brakes on my Evo VIII were among the strongest and easiest to modulate brakes on any car I've ever driven. Head and shoulders above modern BMW's with their over-boosted, grabby brakes that fade in no time.

My Evo's brakes were also killer on the track. It was only a serious lack of ventilation that let them down. But the calipers themselves were no problem. With better rotors and some ducting, they're bulletproof.

Meh. BMW bikes have had brembos for years.

The engineering behind the brakes (BMW's side of things) is infinitely more important than who makes them.
