Most miles seen on a m42?

Just curious what you have seen or heard on high mile m42 or m44, I'm 900miles from 300k on mine and never changed the timing chain and the guy i bought it from the second owner never did any engine work, chain gasket nothing and he got it at 76k, mobil one all the way from new to now. I replaced the pan gasket and the front main seal bearing, but thats it to the actual engine, crazy?

Uh the chain usually lasts the life of the motor, if you know what I mean ;)

I'm coming to 200k, but the engine is about to get plucked for something bigger and better.

the one I drove for a while was 250k.. the chain tensioner etc. was toast, but as long as I gave it time to warm up it was fine. I wouldn't try to autox it with that many miles though..

I know everyone always bitches about timing belts, but chains do NOT last forever, and replacing everything in a chain setup is a LOT more expensive and difficult.

i drive it on the highway all day, i clock nearly 800miles a week mostly at 80mph range, before this job, i commuted 90miles a day at 65mph, and the i bought it from did the same thing (the 90miles commute part), i don't hesitate to run it well over 80mph for 30mile stretches, its a tank! no one seen one with say 350k? Give me another year.

heres what an m42 looks like after it drops a valve on the freeway, and some jackass decided to drive it a few miles...

yes that chunk of metal in on the piston was a valve...

after that valve "dropped" it really didnt matter how far he would have drove, it was a sealed deal. 318is cars never seem to last as long as the M20s over here especially the etas- they last forever.
