You said you know nothing about suspension, but you somehow know for 100% that the gap won't be that big?

realisitcally it will be about 2" vertically and it will add to the effect of the wheels being sunk in when you put the low profile tires that are slightly streched on those large wheels.

And again it will have negative effects on your cars handling because the shocks wont be able to return the tires to the ground fast enough.

Honestly Dan, big wheels on stock suspension looks horrible, no matter what. Suspension fiirst, wheels second.

I've never done front suspension, but I'd be glad to help out. We should have a little suspension install get together with Pete and Will.

that would be sick. now... any reccomendations for suspension set ups? i have about $500-$600 to spend. besides the obvious bilstien sports and eibach sports, any reccomndations? at the f1 gtg... i really liked andy's (killercalypso) stance. i think he had fk's? any koni yellows? anyone verify? how much is a cup kit? is a cup kit a bad idea since i have lower rear arches, and i want the rear to sit a little higher than the front. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks,
                        Dan

If BMWs are the same as the other cars I've done, you just remove the strut (undoing 3 bolts on top, and unbolting it from the brakes, then taking it out. Put it on a spring compressor, and then take apart the strut, remove old spring, insert new, put back together and back in.

Dunno how to replace strut inserts, but it would worth the while. And if you got about 3-4 local guys, you could help each other out, and get a lot of good experience.

You have to disconnect the sway bar links in the back to lower the trailing arms enough to remove the old springs. changing the rear shocks is cake (15 minute job at the most). The front is a little more involved, but it's not that tough. you have take the outer ball joint and tie rod off the strut, discconect the control arm bushing "eye" from the frame of the car, remove the strut mount nuts, and drop the strut off (also have to take off the brakes, duh). with the strut out of the car and a decent spring compressor, changing the front springs/strut inserts isn't too hard either. if you're using bilstiens, don't put oil in the strut tube!!

probably the hardest thing about the front struts is the collar nut at the top, it usually rusts on. Use some penetrating oil (anything but WD-40 will work) and a big fat pipe wrench. you'll destroy the old collar nut but your struts should come with new ones. you should also use all new lock nuts for the ball joint, strut mounts and tie rod.

an alignment may or may not be neccesary. be prepared to pay for one just in case (I didn't need one).
Hmm. I dunno spring setups, because I just went for the GC. :) But Ireland Engineering Stage 3 would be my #1 pick, then H&R sports or Cup Kit, from what I've seen around this site. Stage 3 would be good, I dunno with what springs, but check out shox.com

                          http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6171 - IE stage 3

Cup kit is soft, and the rear is real low, but front a little too high, but cheap enough, especially if you find a good deal on them.
