Bridgestone Potenza RE750 vs. Yokohama AVS ES100

I know the majority of us are huge ES100 fans. I mean I love the low cost, great grip, low noise, but I want to check out my options.

I am selling my 16" wheels & tires, as well as my oversized 205/60-15 tires tommorrow.
Right now, I am enjoying rocking the stocks. But down the road, I will get 15" tires for my Type C's.

I am pretty sure its going to be 205/55-15, correctly sized, neither over again, nor under - as these will be daily driving, and I'll use 14" for autocross.

    So, which should I choose?
I've had great experience with both brands, loved my Potenza 950s on my G20, dug the ES100s I am selling, and Yoko H4s on my Acura, as well as now Potenza 730s (old 950s) on my basketweaves.

Here are the Tirerack comparison numbers:
    Bridgestone - - - - - Yoko
    205/55WR15 - - - - - 205/55VR15
    $90 - - - - - $77
    Ultra High Performance Summer
    8.60 - - - - - 8.40 .......... HANDLING RATING
    8.9 - - - - - 8.7 .......... DRY TRACTION
    8.6 - - - - - 8 .......... WET TRACTION
    8.3 - - - - - 7.7 .......... RIDE COMFORT
    8 - - - - - 7.4 .......... NOISE COMFORT
    8.2 - - - - - 7 .......... WEAR
    340 - - - - - 280 .......... TREADWEAR RATING

    N/A - - - - - N/A .......... SNOW TRACTION
    AA - - - - - AA .......... TRACTION RATING
    A - - - - - A .......... TEMPERATURE RATING

    So please share your input.

    edit, found this on Tirerack:
The RE750 is a fantastic tire. Smooth, quiet and comfortable for cruising down the highways, but responsive and grippy enough for the ramps and back roads. Wet traction is also very nice, but hydroplane resistance isnt as nice as I would like. The treadwear is nice and even, though it is too early to judge longevity. Comparing the RE750 with the Yokohama AVS ES100, I would have to say the ES100 has better traction in the dry, and in the wet. Also, the ES100 is more responsive and has better hydroplane resistance. The only reason I did not buy another set of ES100s is because the ES100s are NOISY; very loud and intrusive on the highways. The RE750 seems is a nice compromise between performance and comfort.

Given the lower tread wear ratings on the Yokos, I'm surprised they score better on try traction. The reveiw you posted seems to contradict their ratings a bit. I'd stick with the ES100.

I had RE730s (the 750 predecessor) on my E36 M3, and they were a lot noisier than the es 100s I have on my cabrio and M6.

I had 730s on the rear of my 88 325is then when it came for new tires and I got Avs Es100's all the way around. If I had to do it again I would of gone with the bridgestones 750's. My 730's were noisier but at High way crusiing speeds around 80-90 the Bridgestones were a lot more stable preditable. The Avs's do stick in the corners that part I don't mind. I just don't feel as confident cruising on the interstate above 80.

The RE730's have shit all to do with RE750's. Completely different tire.

The RE750's are better in every possible way from everything I've read, and the treadwear rating doesn't lie. I'll be ordering a set for my RX's.

I've had both Yokohama AVS ES100s and RE750s.. while I've only put ~200 miles on them so far, the RE750s seem quite a bit better. my car is quieter, it rides smoother, there is more dry grip and the RE750 should have much much better hydroplaning resistance (something I was never happy with the yokos). they should also last longer. the yokos have a 280 treadwear, the RE750 have a 340. I wore out my yokos in about 14,000 miles. the RE750s were $17 more each, but I think it's worth it unless you're stuck with 14" wheels, where you have no choice.

:? I just supplied the numbers just for a basis to compare, how Tirerack rates them. I was looking for actual experience to support my decision.

Aaron, Jay, Ely, and especially Nando, thank you for your input.

Anyone else run the two tires, or one of them? I'm leaning towards Bridgestone as I have had more or less better experience with the tires I've purchased from that company, and don't want to buy ES100s just because they are cheaper, or that seemingly everyone recommends them. I wouldn't mind paying $60 more if it'd net a better product.

when are you buying your tires? i really haven't pushed my RE750s yet, they're barely even broken in. I have an autocross on Sunday though, I'll get to see if they make me any faster. :)

I dunno when. Whenever I get sick of stock basketweaves I guess. I sold my 16", sold my 15" oversized tires, and given any my R compounds, so I have $$$ and space to get them.

I'm trying to run around and appreciate stock rubber for a while, so that I can get a better feel and understanding for car control. Hopefully an autocross or two.

Damn, that's gay, just as I sell my wheels, and may be ready to buy new tires, the Bridgestone $50 rebate ends......

I was commenting on the fact that the numbers only tell you so much, and those two are fairly close so its a judgement call *shrug*

yeah, I understand that, but I am not going to buy Bridgestone just because the numbers are higher :P If I was going to do that, I would have already have ordered them, without real life reviews from fellow peers.

You'd probably tell a difference in how fast your tread goes by.

I have AVS100s and I plan on getting RE750s for my next tire.
