I look at this as trying to keep their product lasting a long time. Many makes just ignore problems and have cars dying around 100k miles instead of addressing the issue when they fall upon it.

My mother has a currenlty 65ishk mile 2001 Toyota Highlander. She bought it new. The only thing she has had to do is change fluids and put a set of tires on it. Never touched anything else. Starts and drives everyday.

I had a brand new Toyota Tacoma that was decked out. The thing would just die in traffic for no reason. Brought it to the Dealer at least a half dozen times but they made it seem like i was imagining it. Hyundai is able to produce a premium car for a cheaper price cause they have a comparative advantage because of their economy. I'm sure the employees in Germany make a but load more then Koreans. That being said cost of parts and materials would also be cheaper. Arguing that they are crap cause they are cheaper would be like saying Jaguars are better cars cause they are more expensive. I would probably not drive any cars out of Asia again to begin with but its nice to know Korea is trying to make Germany step up their game.

Oh I agree, that's what makes Toyota a good company, they fix their mistakes unlike some brands who prefer to refuse the problem even exists. Unfortunately their product currently leaves much to be desired.

I've have driven my share of low-mileage Hyundai models, say.. 1999 model year up.. mostly Sonatas (their then flagship car).

Sorry but no thanks. Their much older models seem to be more durable.

not that they should listen to me.... i can't afford a new bmw.

Wow, it's so ugly. When I saw the first shot of it passing the German sedans I thought it was an SUV, its way too tall, thats where their interior room came from. It doesn't seem like too bad of a car until you realize its made by Hyundai. I'm sure it will be a great commuter car, but based on who I expect to buy a new Hyundai, they wasted their time developing a 6spd manual V8. If your buying a Hyundai your trying to save money and your most likely not going to be forking out for the v8 option and you cant be bothered to shift with all kids you have to deal with while driving.

^I think thats the point, they are trying to enter a NEW market segment for them.

They figure if we can get young guys to buy this performance oriented car and be happy with it, maybe when they need to upgrade to a 4dr because they have a family and kids they will stay loyal to the brand.

Really though, if you're comfortable enough in life to be able to purchase a brand new BMW 550i, are you really going to even consider a Hyundai Genesis? No. If you can't afford a 550i but the Genesis is in your price range, BMW still isn't losing a customer.

Say what you want, Hyundai is doing some amazing stuff at a cheaper price than their competition. Mark my words: 10 years from now they'll have shed their early image and be another legitimate player like Toyota, Honda or Nissan.

Just because you're a millionaire doesn't mean you're going to buy a Veyron over an f430. There are wealthy people out there who turned out that way(and will stay that way) because they know how to shop for the best value.

Hell, I see million dollar homes with corollas parked out in front of them.

Not one car is perfect for everyone. The genesis COULD be what a lot of people are looking for. I think if the EXACT same car was coming from Lexus or something, you would be interested. It's simply bias.
