I had to use hot water the first time it got really cold out, so when the lock dried out and the weather got above freezing for a short time I squirted some graphite powder into the lock. It is still stiff, but it has never frozen up completely since. My trunk never seems to freeze (I don't have central locking either), so I keep one of those tiny handheld blowtorches in the trunk just in case. I tested it to make sure it works, and it didn't melt anything, so I guess I'm good to go ;)

GL with installing a new window.

I know you busted your window already. But you couldn't pop the inside lock up with a metal clothes hanger?

i never pour any water, but i used to spray some de-icer or wd40, BUT it freezes up after less than a winter week,

So, since then i always put a good quality ( duct) tape (choice of colors) to cover the tumbler, and just peel it off when i need to unlock the door.
it works every time all the time! i never put anything else :)
