m42technik, if you dont shift it its an auto. Hence the term automatically. It is better than a classic torque converter but its still not the same as rowing your own.

Last heard the M5 wasnt going to get active steering because the design of active steering was to make slow speed maneuvers such as parking easier, the costs of dead spots at speed would taint the M image.
    Im now E30less.

It will. Although it will be different from the normal E60 AFS.

is anyone a fan of the E39 M5 SMG? If so, why would anyone be apposed to a lighter M5 with more power that probably handles better....in SMG form.

Why do people even care? I don't see the fun in that car, you're so detached, there's no thrill. I genuinly only like BMW's made before 1991... I will probably never personally own a newer one.

Have you actually driven one (or any E60 for that matter) to know this?

The staunch speculation coming from people in this thread who will never make enough money to even consider buying a new M5 is just gross. Let alone even driving one.

                Actually, more funny than gross.

This whole drive by wire thing is killing me! I don't know how driving can be enjoyable when there is no physical connection! I drove an E46 M3 with SMG and that was frustrating enough, I can't imagine an M5...

Incredible technology being applied in the new S65. Gear-driven cam gears, 10-throttles, 8250rpm, 507hp! Yipee! It'd be interesting to see what the engine weighs, and also the gearbox. Wicked powertrain.

My friend has a Z4 2.5 loaner car for a few days, and the whole electronic throttle thing just completely blows. Steering response is nice, though.

This is a good thread to argue about or complain...

I agree with Rob 100% and most of the others.....

Will any of us drive a E60? Or own one? No but I've driven the E39 M5 and E46 M3... so it is possible.

                              V10 = Nice
                              E60 design, not bad looking
SMG? Well lets just say BMW had a problem with SMG I and SMGII still has it's querks... but only offering a SMGII in a ///M car, like others said, we know where ///M is going towards. The people who a) have the money b) who never want to feel the car c) who will never autox/track the car. There is a small, lets say 10% who track their E39, I am guessing that number will be lower for people who track their E60. BMW is making the power because they are putting more 'saftey, comfort, hey you got money, we can put all the items you want because you make the money and we are turning into Mercedes!

Will the car be fast? Yes... Will it handle? Probably Will it be heavy? Yes

When I drove the E39 M5, I liked it. Power and wasn't that bad as far as handling. Of course I couldn't go 100mph in a corner, but you can compare. The E46 M3 is an E46 330 with a bigger frame, more luxury, and a bit more power.

We are viewing BMW history. F1 techonology? Yeah V10 duh.

Oh we got to love the 8250 redline... of course how many of their drivers will EVER take it around there. I am waiting to see the car driven by blondes with fake boobies driving a fake ///M car. Sad!

From a non-e30 member of BFc:

i called all of the known automotive press, engineers, test drivers, and mechanics and from all of their insightful contributions and recorded data i was able to create up with this scientifically exact graph to show exactly where the e30 stands compared to all other bmw models.

from the logged points on this chart we can clearly see the the e30 is the best car ever, if not the finest machine ever conceived.
