    v8 vs m50

    v8 vs m50

i already have an m50 and almost evey swap part i need, but i found a bmw v8 from a 5 series that i can get for $108, but its missing ignition coils, oil pan, and the wiring harness isnt in great shape.

i want to know what the benefits would be of going with the v8 vs the m50. i know the v8 has more hp. but is it relatively easy to make faster, or would it be difficult ? also how would the v8 take to a turbo ?

You cant put a v8 into your E30. I'm not saying it cant be done, just that I doubt that you could pull it off. Just go with the M50.

There 5 series came with a few different V8s, so your going to be more specific as well.

i dont care to hear the "you cant do its" i can call my dads shop, my moms shop, or trenges shop and have people here to help me instantly.

i am asking if it would be worth it. and as for which v8 it is i dont know yet, i might go back tomorrow to get the vin and do a carfax report.

i thought it was just different displacement/block material?

if its the older m60s make sure its an alusil block and not nickalsil (sp)

teh only benefit tha m60 has over the m50 would be raw power

but you have to consider maintenance and other misc. factors

i havent seen tooo much for engine mods though ive seen a few cams and i think they take well to boost apps
            ?

Just try to find out which 5 series came wit hthis engine. (e34 or e39). if its the e39 no worries if its the e34 make sure its the alusil block. i would go with the M60 motor and there are plenty of superchargers for this motor.

its an e34. superchargers are insanely overpriced. so thats prolly not even an option.

the 3.0 pretty much sucks. The 4.0 is pretty cool but as everyone else mentioned make sure its not the nikasal block.

so if its a 3.0, then forget about it. if its a 4.0 i need to check to see if it has an aluminum block, if it does then i should get it.

                      alusil, not aluminum.

If the price of a supercharger is out of the question you might not realize the cost of a V8 swap into an E30. There is a reason that we only have one bmw v8 powered car on the board.

You can probably go forced induction for like 2 grand. All we are saying is that to get the V8 in is going to take a whole lot of fabrication and in the end you can throw on that M50 you have and bolt on a turbo or supercharger. THe V8 would have some nice torque down low but that would be about it. Even Dinan or ACS or maybe one of the other tuners took out a V8 in an E39 to put in a S5xx motor.
