Like I said on that other site Dave, I really enjoy watching the progress of your project. High quality, no-corners-cut builds like this are inspiring. Is there an expected completion date? Is this shop very busy, or do they just work slowly? Or is it that you just keep throwing more and more shit at them?

Kind of a mixed bag. Definitely more and more shit is a big factor. At the outset, I said it's casual on the timeline. Now there's a bit more pressure to get the thing done by the 19th, so it can be a featured car at CMW's Beer, Brats and BMWs event.

I've been on vacation in Cancun.
The motor went in, ran, but something was wrong. The only thing I know for sure is that there were a lot of fine metal particles in an oil sample taken after about thirty minutes of running.
Last thing I saw was the motor out, disassembled, block about to be sent out again, and (more) new pistons had been ordered.
Ron guesstimated a few weeks for the car to be running again. No big deal for me; when he's happy with it I'm sure I will be too.

Today I stopped by CMW to see my pal Ron and his crew, and of course see what's up with the project.
I didn't post about it, but there was a setback with the motor which required it to be pulled and disassembled. I won't go into the details, but the event did cause me to appreciate - yet again - what a great guy Ron Inchausti is. A freshly prepped block is now ready to be assembled.
Ron's plan is to break-in the motor without boost, using the stock AFM, injectors and chip. It'll likely be rolling in a week or two, then I'll drive it every day to get the miles piled up, hopefully in a month or so. Then we'll swap those parts, get the boost on, and it'll be party time.
While it's in pig-ass-slow mode, that is, a green M20 with lower compression, I'll see about getting the M-tech II parts installed.
Damned thing is turning out to cost about as much as it was when it was new. However, it'll be so much cooler than it was then. ;)

nice! :)
this is very similar to my project turbo cabbie ( http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38917 )
yours is definitely looking cleaner with the painted parts going on.
i'm using a 2.93 for the diff, i think it works well for my driving style, which is to use 5th as an economy gear and just downshift whenever i need the turbo power to kick in (in 5th it doesn't lay on till i'm doing almost 80mph)sigpic
