I'm heading off to college and looking into getting a laptop. Should I go with Dell or Apple?

Originally posted by Kondourneither, dell is crap, and apple is overpriced. toshiba makes an awesome product. Had good luck with them. Highly recommend
If Dell is crap then toshiba makes the worst friken POS in the world.
Every toshiba laptop I have used has had some cheap issue with it, mine not only overheated, but the cdrw drive died.
Toshiba's fix for overheating? downclocking the processor. Screw them,
Dell is fair, good support as they have on site, which I like, however they also have a cheap plastic feeling now.
Apple is fantastic in terms of build quality (talking powerbooks here) same with IBM
Thinkpad or Powerbook

James. Help me. I've put off buying my laptop because I had second thoughts. (before anyone says Apple.....they are not compatiable with Purdue Engineering crap)
I was looking at a pretty decked out laptop to satsify my needs, but I hate using laptops for actual work. So.....
do you think buying the base Dell Laptop for Wifi use and shit, and then get a Desktop with the necessary hardware. From looking at pricing, I could probably get both for less than a deckout laptop.....plus the desktop could be upgraded in a couple years.

I used to sell & service toshiba laptops, for every 15 I moved, I'd say 5-6 would come back with an overheating issue. They're junk.
Dell, I've had no real problems with. Owned a number of their laptops, all bought through their refurb service, and have had zero issues with them. My current noteboox is an X200, had it for about 19 months, and it works great.
Apple, well, they look cool, they're what you buy if you want to impress boys.
