I love my job, I am a Telecommunications Technician. I work with a small company(Westlink Communications) and we have 4 techs and we maintain 600+ customers in Victoria. Our forte is Nortel phone systems. I do anything from pulling cable, wiring and punching down the cables on bix panels, to doing techical phone programming. Getting $14/hr being fresh out of highschool(just turned 18) isn't bad.

Here's some photos of some of my installs:

I like to think I do clean work. Tell me what you think

Well, I got the job working for Terry DeLong, he's an awesome, down to earth guy. He has some pretty amazing projects, too! He wants me to help him pull a diesel engine out of one of his 4-door golfs and put into a 2-door GTi and on top of that he wants to try running it on "Brown's Gas". He is also planning on building a Cummins powered Dodge Ram Charger and finalizing the bodywork off of Sammy Hagar's '67 Mustang.

The pay isn't all that great, but when you get a chance to learn from the best, you take it.

Thats super you got a new job, although I'd be scared about any plans to run anything on Brown's gas. Have you read much about yull brown's theories. Some of it has been discredited pretty well.

As long as he's paying me and for the stuff, I do what he tells me. I've read a little about it, it's interesting to say the least. He's interested in it for the fuel economy, even though he said his diesel golf already gets high 40's. Anyway it should be fun.

I do the exact same thing, I work for a company called ACT Cascades. We specialize in Cisco and Avaya, and we also do Lodgenet systems (movies and stuff for big hotels). Do you guys do fiber optics, also? I'm about 1/3 the way through the apprenticeship program, and just got rerated and a pretty damn decent raise came with it. In about another 1 1/2 - 2 years, I'll have my license.

Here's a couple of my wiring closets we just did out at a hospital, all new cat6 networking to every room and office. This is before all the zip ties were removed and replaced with velcro:

I like most parts of my job.

Because i deal with people alot, there are those that i love dealing with and that makes me like my job even more.

But then there are those old snobbs, that think bcus im a young kid they shouldn't give me any respect, esp when my job is to convince their manager/company how to do things better/more efficient.

i'm sous chef at a local steakhouse/brewery full time, and wrench on bikes(cycles) at the only local full service shop part time in the summer. i really like both. at the restaurant i get to produce good food and have free reign as far as ordering the product i want and creating menu items and specials, i work with my friends (all of whom snowboard, dirt jump, drink, smoke, and generally raise hell together after hours), eat said good food to my hearts content, and it's a 3 minute walk from my house ($4.50 gas ftl, walking to work ftw). i've been cooking professionally for 11 years now, and have my bachelors in recreation management. additional bonuses include going to work at 2pm, so most of my day is free for my hobbies, the aforementioned eating for free 5 days a week (saves $$$ like you wouldn't believe), and as we are a brewery i also get more booze than is healthy with an average tab of about $3-6 for a night of drinking with my girl.

the bike shop is a relaxed, upscale, respected establishment in my area, and wrenching is a passion of mine so it's hardly like work at all. we get tipped in beer, get free coffee & pizza from adjacent stores, and all my bikes/ parts are purchased at cost. it is run by myself and 2 other mechanics, also drinking-riding-chillin buddies, with a collective mechanic background of well over 40 years. come to think of it, i've got it pretty good right now.

I so miss having keys to a skatepark. I really miss the Tuesday late night sessions we use to have at the park I co-managed.

Now I work as an associate software engineer. I have an EE degree but started working here 5 years ago as a customer support rep answering phones. They let me work my way to the level I am at now and I am loving it, even when fires get dropped in my lap at 4:30pm on Fridays. Well not really but it is a fun place to work.
