You're wasting your money putting synthetic in that thing.

Word, I'm going to start running GTX as of my next oil change... the good ol' M42 was going through Mobil 1 at about 1 quart every 1000 miles or slightly less, and it was getting to be a nickel and dime thing. It's due for a change as of 193k, so I've got about another 800 miles of synthetic burning joy to go through.

Always changed it myself since I got the black 325i. My father insisted in having someone doing it for him.

Oh well, his loss. I save my money. For $20 an oil change, I doubt he is running synthetic.

I'm a Castrol GTX guy.... but when I get back I'll do another oil change, which the 3 month period is a month overdue for the oil change. When that happens I'll give Mobil 1 a shot.

Unfortunately i work at jiffy lube right now while i'm in school.
A lot of shadey stuff goes on for a lot of different reasons,I would never bring my car to a jiffy lube. and if your using synthetic its still cheaper to do it urself $56.00 plus tax for syn. at jiffy lube. We really kno how to rape costmers.. I have a few interviews coming up at dealorships i can't wait to get out

Must be easy as hell I presume?

In the 325i you must fiddle with it a bit but nothing drastic.

Its so easy to change it on the M42 (except that I have to slightly raise the front to clear my drain pan) that it seems silly to have someone else do it for you. Unless I have it in for other repairs, I always change my own oil.

On my M20 i'm so used to reaching through the headers with gloves on and doing it...i acually find it quite easy to do while above the car.

I have my own "oil filter tool" that I got from NAPA for free :P

No gloves or anything, just reach in, spin it, and take it out.... then again, even without it, it's not any hassle either.

You sonafabitch. How'd you know it was me?

I don't do it simply because its done when I have other repairs done to my car, which happen to be 3,000 miles of each other. :x

I was one of the originators of the GB, but I'd rather see proven results first.

I do it myself. I get the 5qt jugs of GTX from Walmart for like $8. From my reading on bobistheoilguy.com and peoples used oil analysis..GTX does quite well for being a conventional oil. They say it's good for at least 5-6K miles. I guess it comes down to whether or not you're comfortable extending the oil change interval with synthetic.

You never realize how lucky you are to have somewhere to work on your car until it's gone :(

We enclosed our carport to add-on to our house. So now I have a slightly uneven driveway. You want jack stuff up too high or it'll tip. I just did my last oil change by driving on enough wood so I don't need a jack :P
