List your performance mods and MPG

At the the car meet I was talking to blue apple soda who said his turbo car was getting 11mpg. With the price of premium encroaching $5 a gallon in so cal the thought of spending hard earned money on performance upgrades with a potential harsh effect on fuel economy seems like a haunting dilemma. Lets see what kind of mods are yielding what MPGs.

And don't post what your OBC tells you cause they lie.

    I'll start.

    87 325is manual tans with 3:73 LSD, 300k miles
    173 stock DME
    M30 AFM with cone filter
    Bosch (Ford refurbs) 19lbs injectors.
    8mm plug wires
    Magnaflow cat
    IE exhaust
    23mpg combined average.

11mpg on a turbo M20? wow that is horrible. He must have the low load areas tuned pig rich.. FMU or standalone? I'm betting FMU.

anyway, the only mods that count:

    M20B28
    4.10(s)
    42# injectors
crap headers, stock cat, Supersprint catback
    MS2/e running wasted spark
    stock airbox/Mann filter

I haven't tuned for economy at all and I get about 18-19 on average. with motronic, I was getting.. 18-19 on average. lol. But it was quite a bit slower.

            Turbo M20B28
            Holset HX35
            Volk Adapter
            MSnS w/ Waste Spark
            60# injectors
            3.73 rear end

I am getting about 20 mpg mixed with lots of romping on it and about 25 freeway.

            Stock ETA
Dinan Chip (came with car, I wouldn't pay money for that piece of shit)
            2.93 LSD

I have a rubbing caliper on one side that is dropping mpg by about 2-3 mpg that I need to fix. I used to get 25 city and 29 freeway.

your friend is probably getting poor mileage from that fuel-only setup, the timing is way retarded and it has to run super rich to compensate.

yeah, they only hit a max of 40% dc though. 21-24# would perfectly suit my current power level but I got a good deal and they were barely used - and there's lots of room for future growth. :)

Mine's mostly stock with a Mark D chip and suspension. I just did an entire tune up and got 28.5 mpg from L.A. to Palm Springs and back this last weekend, between 70 and 85 mph. I also had the a/c on about 50% of the time. It was about 90% freeway and 10% city. I get about 18 in the city and 20 if I drive like a 90 year old.

I was getting between 28-30 but Ive managed 32 on the highway.
I just got all new injectors, we'll se if that makes a difference.

If your idea of mods includes an aftermarket catalyst, then count my car in. Otherwise, all stock M20B25, 3.73LSD, 15x7 wheels w/ 225/50s, B-Sports and IE Stg3 springs. With the tank topped to the neck I've returned 365-370 miles (mostly highway) on the trip meter which is around 25mpg. Maybe a tad better if I grandma the throttle.
