Home Made Petrol/Hydrogen Hybrid $$$ saver

So i was watching a news report last night on some mechanic who has converted his old ford falcon to a petrol/hydrogen hybrid.

    Here is how it works.

1: A canister looking object would be filled with water. Then add electricity converting the water to hydrogen.

2: This would pass to a bubbler to prevent any flash backs for safty concerns.

3: Then into the mainifold were it would mix wit the fuel.

Then to give proof it works they took a similar ford falcon and had them do a 100km freeway run the hybrid used about 5 L/100km and the strandard about 20 L/100km.

So its a huge differance i wanted to know how this would affect my M42. Would it stuff the computer around and dose this affect the motor in anyway. Cheers

Here is a link to the news artical http://au.todaytonight.yahoo.com/home
on the right hand side you can see a MPEG player and the one you want to watch is "Aussie Brothers Run Car On Water"

    Thanks Massimo

Sounds neat. I imagine it takes alot of engineering skills and special equiptment?

special equipment? all you need is some water and electricity. i have both. someone make a diy. i'm going to put a gallon of water in my gas tank

yea well.. i wouldnt put water in your gas tank. Make sure you know what you're doing before ruining your car.

You do realize that making hydrogen from water is a negative energy process, right?

WTF are they teaching in schools now-a-days?

Ask yourself this: So if this works - why not remove the gas tank all together? Use a battery to start making Oxygen and Hydrogen - burn that in your motor, and then use the electricity generated by the alternator to make MORE oxygen and hydrogen! WOOOT! FREE ENERGY MAN! JUST ADD WATER!

Really people - take a "physics for English majors" class.

                  ....

                      Good question....

It bends my mind that anyone buys into this shit.

I understand that by this process you will have waste but how dose it affect you fuel economy in the long run?

OH SH*T sorry trying to work and read at the same time not a good idea.

Anyways im interested in put this into a dd if it works would be awsome. Just wanted to know what this would do to the engine. Not looking for any performance gains just fuel economy.

Let me put this into simpler terms.

separating Oxygen and Hydrogen from water by Hydrolysis...that is putting a current through water. You have a cathode and an anode, the water is the electrolyte most of you know what happens. Now you have Oxygen and Hydrogen.

Okay now lets talk energy. It takes MORE energy to separate water into Hydrogen and Oxygen than you can get out of burning Hydrogen...that is what your engine does..its an air pump by combustion.

At the end of the day, you're using gas to electrolize water with some factor of efficiency (most likely a decent to poor one) and in terms dumping that "HHO" gas as people call it (H2,O gas) into your very inefficient engine and here you start a cycle of wasting energy that makes your car less fuel efficient.

                              ......

from another point of view, your ECU pretty much works off your O2 sensor, most cars will have problems running some dose of this HHO gas, too much and you'll probably stall. there are people that run their cars on water but it is a completely different story and they don't use their car's alternators to generate their fuel; that would defy the first law of thermodynamics.

                              thank you. good night.
