I feel like you guys are missing the point about the water injection thing.
I pick up how water is being electrolyzed and then injected into the intake. Is that correct?
I mean, if thats right, then forget the electrolysis thing. That idea is complete rubbish. To think that you are somehow changing the state of water to make it react different in an engine and help save fuel is ridiculous.
BUT, on the other hand, water injection is a rather important component to obtaining more power from the engine. A misconception that you speak of is that its only for boosted cars, to be sprayed before the intercooler for the purpose of transferring temperatures more efficiently.
That is very true yet only half of the story. Water injection, when atomized right before entering the intake valves, yet still before the fuel injectors plays a huge role in a number of pros in performance.
By mixing into the air and fuel, it steadies the combustion, makes the burn more thorough and complete. Normally only a small amount of fuel is actually burned but with adding water molecules to the mixture, the ignition characteristics are changed dramatically.
In adding water to the air mixture, detonation is raised considerably. Engines with extremely high compression ratios run water injection to actually make use of the power band that would normally be useless with lower octane (93+) fuels. This all means with the ability to tune the maps and timing, you obtain more power from less fuel.
Placement of the injectors is almost as much an important factor as tuning the amount of water dumped into the intake system. The further away from the valves, the longer the atomized water has to cool the air. But on the down side, the molecules cohere to larger molecules again, reducing their effect on other positive factors. Cooled water makes a difference too. Additives make a HUGE difference - certain alcohol increases the waters positive factors at an incredible level. UP TO a certain point.
A couple numbers i remember was 25% of the water mixture should be alcohol. And 25% of the weight in fuel can be accompanied with water. Now dont quote me on that. You would have to look it up for clarification.
All in all, i think you could obtain greater than 10% performance increase, i would suggest closer to 15% WITH a very good injection system and lots of tuning. With improved performance comes better fuel economy. I cant even guess at how much.
I would be willing to bet that electrolysis part doesnt do shit. If anyone tried to proclaim something, i bet they did a damn fine job at adding a water injection system to their engine.Comment
