I'll let you know. There's one on Craigslist in NJ w/ 88k miles, silver on black that overheated due to a possible bad thermostat. Good price, just need to see if it's available.

I know there are 4dr. 318i's out there, just have to be on the lookout.

On a side note, my '91 w/ 222K on it gets around 25 in mixed driving, a little better on the highway. I drive like a maniac too.

oh shit siq! I'm gonna put my bike and my e34 up for sale as soon as one sells I'll start the hunt for the e36. or, if anyone wants to trade a 4 dr 5 sp e36 318 for my e34, that would work well also

My daily is a 97 318 4 door (M44). I put quite a few miles on it. Depending on if it's in town or on the highway I get about 450-480 to the tank. Tank is what...15 or is that e30 I'm thinking? Well at 15 it'd be 30 mpg which sounds about right.

OBD1 vs. OBD2 in my opinion. I guess the 1.9 (M44) has more power and torque, but the fact that there are emissions regulations outweigh the added power.

                    ???

OBDII wasn't until 1996. M42's should be OBD nothing...

I got the impression he was saying the M44 was OBDII, and didn't they start using the M44 part way through 1995 or something like that?

I would think that since I usually comes before II, that if the M44 is OBDII, that would make the M42 OBDI.

The emissions regulations mandated that any car sold in the US market had to be OBD II beginning January 1, 1996. It is my understanding that BMW considers vehicles manufactured from October thru December of a given year to be the following year model car. For example: all cars produced from October 1994 to September 1995 would be considered 1995 model cars. So on this basis (if I'm wrong on this, please correct me), it is possible that the E36 318s produced from October to December 1995 could be OBD II cars - or - BMW let these very early 1996 cars remain as OBD I and then made the change to OBD II emissions beginning January 1, 1996.

Some links I referenced for this information:

how is the trunk space in the e36 sedan? compared to the e30? Im looking for something I can fit my goalie pads and bag into. I may have to make a sub enclosure that goes in the spare tire for space reasons
