mine was all economics. I had gotten out of construction and back into wrenching and needed something more economical for commuting then my 8mpg truck. I was looking at all kinds of stuff, my criteria,
needed to be a 4cyl, 5 speed fixer upper I could get into cheap

then a co-porker told me about a bmw on craigs list. it was a 6cyl sedan, but while loooking at it on cl, found my current ride

91 318ic, blown head gasket, fixr upprer, , went to take a look, and bought it without driving it. had been parked for quite a while, green mold under a few inches of snow. But it was straight, good top, everything worked. $700 for the car, cost bout another 800 to get running right, have spent a lot more since, lowering, etc

My e30 is the 3rd car that Ive owned. I saw one on the vortex in the mkiv forum and fell in love. I was already trying to sell my mkiv gti so I decided to search for an e30, I found my car on the Denver Co craigslist. After negotiating price for a week or so, I drove 800 miles to Denver to pick it up.
The main things I like about them are: rwd, European, reasonably cheap, inline 6 engines, handles well, and good looks.

i never actually wanted an e30; when i was 16 my parents told me i wasn't allowed to have a jeep wrangler (which I wanted) so I looked in the classifieds for another car and they approved of the e30. Before I went to look at it my dad showed me the bavarian autosport website and said "we can make that car really cool".

I'm 24 now and still have the same e30 (and another one).

A highschool friend was selling his when we were freshmen in college and I took it for a drive, almost r3v'd it and fell in love all at the same time. Didn't buy the car and I regret it every time I see a black e30. Been through 2 and going to look for my third as soon as the second one is sorted.

Back when I was in high school my dad said no asian cars, so that was out. Had to be rwd or 4wd. Had to come with a stick shift. Couldn't have a V6. Needed to be cheap, and have atleast some form of aftermarket parts out there. Had to be relatively light. Most American cars weren't on the level other than the xr4ti and a few others, but I didn't want to have a turbo daily driver, or a heavy lump so those were all knocked out of the running. Narrowed things down to German cars because the amish wired British cars like our Rover, French cars are ghey and Italian cars are money pits. Fuck Saab. Didn't like Audis, Porsches were too rich for my blood (924? haha) and VW was FWD gheyness. Decided it was either going to be an e30 or a 190e. Happy with my choice cuz I didn't want a 4 door. Getting to the back seats shouldn't be my issue, I'm not going to be sitting there.
            Jah bless! :pimp:

this new guy at work had a little bmw that was way sick i always wanted an e36 when i was young, but before clay i didnt even know about e30s. so i got on r3v and diccided that my 85 2.8 camaro 5 speed wasnt cuttin it for me. so i found a craigslist add and called the guy, got a loan, and bought my 87 325is. i sold the camaro and the rest is history.
Clavinzero's 90 325is it had 15" kosais at the time but it was still the bees knees.

Ive always liked euro, and as ridiculous as it sounds, while shopping around for my HS ca r, i really wanted RWD, and the movie trasnporter threw the bmw world into my head. But an e38 wasn't practical, an e36 not quite right, but an e30 was perfect for that squared off black bmw

I was into VW rabbits in high school till I drove my friend's '84 318i one day and fell in love with it.

Got rid of the 'dub, bought an '87 'vert, and have had at least one e30 in the stable ever since.

My dad was the VW/BMW/MB specialist for an independant shop. After going round and round with my first car, a '74 Super-Beetle basket-case, just after high school an '88 Super-eta presented itself at my dad's shop with a blown head gasket. The owner didn't want to pay for the repairs, so I snagged it on the cheap. I fell in love the first time I drove it.
Stupidly, before going overseas I sold that e30. The string of cars that I had after that just didn't feel 'right'. When I was finally given the chance (the wife's Nissan got totaled) I jumped back into an e30. When I was test driving my current e30, all I could hear was Marlene Dietrich's "Falling in Love Again" ringing through my ears above the stuccato of that m20 tap. I knew I was home...

I was riding down the street looking at cars and saw mine. We ended up driving past it but came back because my mom saw something she liked. We looked at the bmw and after driving it I fell in love with it. Then I came on here and saw all the very cool other e30s and knew that was the car for me. A week later We went back and got it.

I had a friend my first Freshman year at ASU that had one. He later moved to MD for an internship, and he'd come pick me up to go rock climbing/hang out. (I didn't have a car at college at the time.) I started thinking how cool of a car it was (Bilsteins and H&R Sports), then bought an 88 red convertible and joined r3v. While I owned that, I found out about the e30 M3, found one on s14.net close to where my parents lived, and asked them to go look at it. It was a great car in great shape for the right price, so I (via my dad) bought the car. I owned it for 4 months before ever seeing it.
