What a day... Pomona Raceway, 4.48 sec at 331mph, awesome!!

    Hey guys-
I just got home from a "field trip" with a few guys from my transmission and driveline class. We went to Pomona for the day to see the NHRA Nationals for qualifying, final race of the year.
All I can say is BADASS. I am partially deaf, my skin burns, and I am all amped on these top fuel cars.
I have been to the races in years past, but its been a while and I forgot just how amazing these cars really are. I had a blast watching them fly down the track at insane speeds. I got to see everything up close and meet some cool people, and it was a lot of fun.
Fastest run of the day went to Tony Schumacher at 4.48 secs, with a speed of 331mph, a perfect run as the final top-fuel dragster.

I will post some pics of the 4" flames that came out the exhausts as these 8000 HP monstors took my breath away.

I am by no means a drag racing fan, but this is an expierence everyone should have at lease once, just to see how fast they can go and how quickly they can do it.

Just for another fact tid-bit, they pull roughly 5.5 G's on the launch, averave 4 G's throughout the run, and pull -6 G's on the decel with the parachutes. They also reach 100 mph in .8 seconds, its just unreal.

    Later guys.

Dam! 0-100 in 0.8 seconds? That's the next best thing to being shot out of a cannon

I'm definately like you in the respect that I'm not a big NHRA fan, but I think it would be neat to just watch those insane dragsters just once. Sounds like you had a blast. What a great way to spend your Friday.

    Have a good weekend.

Stand behind one when it launches. It'll open your eyes.

I am a big fan of NHRA Drag Racing, there is just something about a top fuel car doing the 1/4 mile that fast. Don't get me worng, I would rather own and drive a car that actually handles when it turns but going to the drag races is a lot of fun. Ahhh, the smell of Nitro Methane in the morning!

i went to one last year in tennesse for the first time ever. it was amazing, i didnt know waht to expect. and damn, the tennesse dragway strip is carved into a mountain and the sound just echo's like mad making it seem so much louder. it was a great day, it was 95 degrees and at one point when a funny car blasted by it was enough to make my nose start to bleed. i know it sounds wierd after hearing that but everyone who gives a shit about cars should experience an nhra type drag at least once!

I used to go to the strip nearby here all the time when i was young, just watching the winston drag races.

Anyone who watches much of it may remember a funny car driven by roger comstock. He was my dads boss at the time and it was a police car style funny car.

I want to swing down by route 66 raceway, apparently they hold alot of bracket racing the good ole "run what ya brung" type of deal.

I find it cool watching a guy in a dodge caravan beating a dodge viper with nitrous, just because he can keep his et's consistent (for those of you who know the rules and concepts behind bracket racing)

Last time I was at a strip they have a rocket powered rail car there. He ran a 5 second 1/4 with a 3xx trap, and the thing is he coasted after 1/8th mile.

Let's drive fast and have fun.
