Finding the right car takes time and searching. As for prices there are plenty of cheep $800 e30 that are owned by people that think that's what its worth. You may have to update the maintenance but you will be saving money and making your car new again in the long run.

Regarding MPG I have read as low as 19mpg to as high as 32mpg, Depends alot on what you end up using in terms of tranny and diff, And of course mods to said motor. Oh yeah and how you drive it.... lol

Seriously though, get a running car. It can be ugly and have 1000 cracks in the dash, but the key is, do NOT dump that much money into it. You will never see the money you put into a car back.

If you do mod the hell out of it, when it comes time to sell it, part it out. This is why you should always hold onto old shocks, wheels, and springs. It is much easier to roll a car to the junkyard with these parts still attached.
