A travesty

My ex-neighbor has a real 3.0 CSL sitting in an alley behind her house. She got the car in a divorce deal and brought it to Birmingham from WA state. She and her ex went to Germany back in the early 80's and brought the car home with them. There are still numbers in the windows from auto-x or track events.

The car's been languishing under a cover in the alley behind her house for a couple of years.

Her DD is a minty 635, but the 3.0 is going to die a slow death in that alley.

Anybody else have a similar story?

I talked to her about it at length a few times, but apparently she sees it as some kind of trophy. She stated flat-out that she would never sell it.

The car is in pretty decent shape. It still has the OG paint and original interior. It's been garaged all it's life, so it has no rust anywhere.

She's probably late 50's, and she seems to be a rather strong-willed woman. Last time I talked to her was a year ago, and she was deep in a lawsuit back in WA. She said she was Ebaying crap left & right to pay her attorneys.

Her 635 DD was at my mechanic's shop a couple of weeks ago, so I know she's still in town. I may have to pay her a visit to see what's up.

Some of you older WA state guys might know her. She and her husband were pretty active in the BMW Club up there three or four years ago.

I don't remember he last name, but her first name is Leona. Ring a bell?

Go out and buy some kind of a durable cover for it (thick guage tarp, nylon rope, etc.) and put it over the car. When she comes out asking, "what are you doing?" Simply tell her you want to keep it protected from the elements until she's ready to sell you the car ;-)

I've been wanting a 1969 Rambler S/C Hurst since i was 17. In high school i found one but the guy didn't want to sell. Then last year out of the blue someone told me about one in a barn that was being stored and the guy who owned the barn wanted it out of there cause the guy wasn't paying him anymore to store it there.

Anyway it turned out to be the one that i wanted to get in high school. Found the guys number and called him about it, still didn't want to sell even though it hasn't been touched in the 12 years that i last asked about it.

But in the end, these cars that we want that we see sitting around isn't ours to tell the owners what to do with them. If they want them to rot, It's their loss.

Believe it or not, this is the best thing you can do if you ever want any chance at all to end up with it. Everyone says they will "never sell". I scored a sweet, low-mileage 72 Charger from a guy who swore he would never sell it to anyone.

People change their minds; if you show genuine interest, knowledge and love for their vehicle, I guarantee you will be the first person they will come to if they decide to let it go.

A couple grand in 20's will change somebodies mind quick.

All my car deals in the last 5-6 years have been in cash, with 20's. I don't know why, but 4-5 banded stacks of 20's has a better effect than 50's or 100's.
