Like you need that big of a tire on a 318, not to mention inducting understeer into the chassis by going staggered on tire sizes.
I am running 245/35-17 on the rears on a 8.5 width wheel on a late model arched car. Had to roll the rear arch lips flat to make them fit and am running a et31 with spacers.
Oh and NO understeer either running my staggered setup... ;)
I ran 255/40/17s on staggered doublespokes on my e30 with no rubbing but i had to massage the inner frame rail. it looked like shit though. i thought it was cool for about 15 minutes but its way too much tire for the car. i had high arches but it was slammed

1. We're fucking with fuck-o here.
2. 245/35 and 255/40 are not close in OD.
245/35 = ~23.8 OD
255/40 = ~25.0 OD <--This is a much tougher fitment.
