Hate to hear it Mark, we bought a beta chip from you a while back for my parents E34 540i, it's hot shit. I plan to pick up another one in the near future for my E30. Hope these cloners don't effect your business.
Best,
- Trey

Is there a way to get copyright/retail rights to the software so that it is illegal for anyone else to reproduce it? I don't know much about the nuances of law, but this seems like the way to go. Don't know how much it costs, though. Good luck tracking him down.
By the way, both my 318is and my parents' e34 M5 have your chips installed, and they are well worth it! From a powertrain standpoint, every aspect of the engines have improved-more stable idle, no hanging revs, great response and efficiency, improved driveability, and more midrange power. This, of course, was all proven with my highly sensitive ass. ;)
edit: I just checked the other thread on e30tech and saw that the guy's name is Joaquin Perez. Anyone that has received a pm from me knows that I always sign -Joaquin, as it's my name, so just to clarify, I'm not the nitro325 douche bag Joaquin....

Perhaps you mean you are not the nitro325 douche bag?

I honestly wonder how many of these chips are out there.
How do we clean this up? My opinion would be that to get the market back to where it should be, all of the said "counterfeit chips" be destroyed, and new chips purchased at full face value. It sounds shitty that you would have to pay the price, but this is what it has come to. Counterfeits decrease the market value on a part segment, and give guys like MarkD no incentive to keep producing quality items.

I wish assclowns like nitro325i would dissapear.
I don't know how many are out there, but I'm sure he's not the only one. Two years ago, I came across a guy on Bimmerforums that actually told me he had a clone of one of my chips, but wouldn't say where he got it. I know he got it from some guy that would send a PM to you when you mentioned chips in a thread. And there was another guy over there who posted how he copied my ETA 027 chip, and justified it by saying that he couldn't afford to pay $229 for it. I wonder if he could afford to make sure his car was safe to drive. Chip sales have dropped to less 40% of what they were in previous years. Couple that with the US/CAN exchange rate and I make a fraction of what I did in the past. There's no incentive to work on chip development now. It doesn't pay the bills. I've actually started looking for a FT job in the firmware development area. But don't worry, when JC's new editor comes out, you can tune your own motor. ;)
I wish there was a way to recover damages from PayPal and eBay, and they are aiding the sale of counterfiet items. Someone over there should know by now that it's all cloned stuff that's being sold.

Have you reported any of the auctions to Ebay? I know they probably won't listen if just one person reported them, but if we made it a group effort- it might get someone's attention.
Ebay tends to shy away from bad press, and if they're allowing people to freely sell copies of others' hard work, that's condoning theft.
