I think I remember both of those cars... and I still look at the pics on my phone and take looong, loooong showers.
My good friends' ex boss(if that makes sense) is the head of sales at one of the local Infiniti dealerships here so he(my friend) was able to get his hands on one and bring it to our bi-weekly euromeets. I got to fiddle around with it fairly extensively and go for a ride and the only word to describe it is meh.
Sure the electronic gizmos are cool and all, but there just is no excitement to it. It's fast, but it doesn't feel quick. There's no sudden surge of power, so lurch or anything. It's just more of a "look I stomped on the pedal, and now I'm going 100+.....neat."
I'd definitely like to experience one to it's full potential, but I was able to get a pretty good idea of what it is all about.
Pics taken at our meet by one of my friends.

and a car that would put it to shame...996 EVT GT800

and a car I would much rather own...it happens to have a ESS stage 2 CFR500 kit on it.

All in all, GTR is ugly, heavy, and uninspiring.sigpic89 M3Comment

I think the car is a great engineering feat. It sucks that it is so heavy, but they overcame that and made it perform wonderfully. I'm a nerdy engineer type, so I like that type of shit. But, I also feel that it is ugly, and even though I would rather have a GT-R than an m3, I still would definitely buy something else for the same price.
Also, there is a 111mph speed limiter on the car unless you are at a Nissan approved track. Then you must disable the speed limiter manually. Also, check this lame shit out:
While having to go to a Nissan-approved track is daft in its own right, it's even worse when you leave. After the track day, owners are required to head on over to a Nissan High Performance Center where a $1000 safety check is performed. Don't do it and the factory warranty is void.

Does Nissan have any approved tracks in North America?I think the car is a great engineering feat. It sucks that it is so heavy, but they overcame that and made it perform wonderfully. The R35 GTR really is an amazing car in terms of numbers/performance, but I don't think I'd ever take one over an E90/2 M3 or a 997TT. It's one of the few Japanese cars that I actually like, but there is no replacement for the rawness exhibited by either of its German rivals.- Trey

The high-revving S65 and the RWD surely make it more raw than the R35. I don't mean E30 M3 raw, but it does have some rawness that is rarely seen in newer cars. From everything I've seen of the R35, it is an amazing car, but one has to wonder how floggable it is.
Just my opinion though.- Trey

Just watch the TopGear bit on it, that should put an end to wondering. ;)
