The engine was rebuilt 6 years ago, and the car was parked a few months later. The guy has receipts.

I'm taking a battery, fresh oil, some Thrust, and a can of gas with. If I can make it fire I'll laugh like a borderline defective kid from Sacramento.

I really hope it's not a steaming pile. I haven't had a serious project in years.

Yeah I have an early 67 1600 that is 6 volt. Generator and all. It even has a mechanical clutch and remote brake booster. I bought mine because it's unmolested. Usually the 6 volt goes away along with the long neck diff and chrome dashboard. I have all of those things intact.

Do one thing before starting the car. Remove the oil pressure switch by the dist. and thread a tiny funnel into it. Fill said funnel with oil. While you're waiting for it to go down, squirt some marvel mystery oil into each cylinder to moisten the rings. The oil from the funnel will reverse flow through the passages and lube the bearings - which after years of sitting are surely dry.

So, say the owner of an '02 you're looking at "lost' the keys. Which wires do you trip to hotwire it?

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

Thanks for the tip. I always lube the cylinders if the car's been parked, but the switch lube procedure is new to me. I hope this car's been converted to 12 volt.

The guy can't meet me until 6 pm, so I'll be back with pics after 8. Might take longer if I do buy it because I'll stop somewhere along the way and attempt to start it. Even if the car is hopeless, I'll snap some shots and post them with the guy's name & number. It'll have to be a real POS to pass up for $300.

                      If it's a 68 it's 12v with dual circuit brakes. No worries.

Speaking of which - I have a free 2002 available to me but it's a rust bucket.

Depending on the year there should only be 3 wires on the back of the ignition switch. Shouldn't be too hard.

Never heard of Rio Linda, but I really did spend a year at Aero Haven elementary next to the USAF base in Sacramento. Hard to believe that was 40 years ago.

Do any of you Sacto guys live close to that school? Is it still around?

Sweet. '68 was a year of big changes for German cars.

The owner has the title, but he didn't say if he had keys or not.
