what are some jobs you refuse to do on your car?

I just changed the fuel filter... something I'll never do again. The concept is easy enough, but getting to the filter is almost impossible ('86 325es.. filter is in the driver's side engine bay). The filter needs to be replaced fast, but since space is so cramped, all of the fuel ends up spilling out.

I'll just buy a filter and drive to the nearest german mechanic and pay him to do it. It's not worth it to save a few dollars and smell fuel for 30 minutes

did you pull the fuel pump fuse with the car running and bleed all the pressure out of the system first?

I refuse to tune my EMS. I hate that shit.

no.. I used clamps and my tank was just about empty to begin with. Not a lot of fuel spilled out, but enough to make me dizzy.

Dirty work. I hate it. I have no problem tackling the interior and love detailing, but when it comes to working in tight dirty spaces where you need to rely on feel I give up. Give me a power polisher any day, you can keep your wrenches.

I have an idea. We're all good at SOMETHING. Jean is good at rear subframe bushings, Raxe is good at detailing cars...

we should get together 12 people who are good at various things and have everybody work on one person's car a month until it's running perfect. The person whose car is being worked on buys pizza and beer

                    Wheel bearings. Any of them.
Rears are a PITA and everyone knows that, but my last front WB snapped my 1/2" drive extension, ripping a massive gash in my hand about 10 hours before an autox.
I still pwned everyone with a bandaged hand.

technically, it only pays off if you've done more than $30k worth of repairs to cars

Same here, I actually hate having other folks work on my car, I just don't trust them, so I do it ALL myself instead. My favorite part is making one off stuff. Things on my car made by me include turbo mani, downpipe, intercooler tubing, front/rear strut bars, crank trigger, center console face, sub/amp box and some other nick nacks. I never understand folks owning older cars and not knowing how to do at least the easy stuff.
