    Emissions BS.....

I've been needing to get emissions done for a week or two finally got around to it this morning. Here are my readings:

    (test)......(reading1)-(allowed)-(reading2)-(allowed)
    HC ppm - 00000 - 00168 - 00000 - 00173 - Passed Both
    CO % - 0.00 - 1.08 - 0.00 - 0.98 Passed Both
    No ppm - 01548 - 01208 - 01608 - 01323 - Failed Both
    RPM - 2472 - 1.5k to 3k - 2585 - 1.5k to 3k - Passed Both
    CO+CO2% - 13.5 - 6.0min - 13.7 - 6.0min - Passed Both

Now what I don't understand is how I can get flat 0's readouts for the first two tests. And also what does the "no ppm" mean? I passed with flying colors last year and now this? All I have done is a can of seafoam to get rid of sketchy idle(like 4 months ago) and been running 91 octane through it to help pass this, which apparently didnt help. And of course the idiot that closed the hood bent the damned arm that the hood shock is connected to which didnt help with the failure(). Any Ideas?

First, where in atl do you live?
Second, Make sure you drive your car for a while before you test, your cat should be hot. Also, with our cars, it really depends on where you go to get this done in Atlanta. I have been to some where the car won't pass, then to others where it will. I know Dillsnik ran into problems in marietta, but when he went to chamblee, he passed. I suggest you go to the emmissions place we go to, it is in chamblee off of p-tree ind.
    Directions
from 285 go south, pass the Arby's and make a rt at the stoplight (there is a Shell on the right hand corner) the emmissions place is on the left. It looks like a shop with a thrifty auto rental attached.
Here is why I use them: with my 4.10 and with what I have done to my motor, it is hard for a regular douche bag to get the rpm reading in the right zone for the right amount of time. These guys are knowledgeable enough to get it right the first time. I have had my car tested there for 5 years. Before it was chipped, after it was chipped with headers, now with a mark d chip, and an m30 intake conversion. Always passes the first go round.
Good luck, pm me if you have any other questions.

I am pretty sure that NO ppm = Nitogen Oxide (particles per million)

You sure you don't have any vacuum leaks some where?

Well, We looked voer the paper and talked to a guy at my church who owns a shop, and the guy who did the check didnt sign the paper(apparently a HUGE no-no).

And the more I think about it I'm pretty sure its impossible to have zero NO emissions when any car is running. But I could be wrong.

I've got to get some wiper blades for my car anyways so I'm gonna buy one of the octane boosters for shits and giggles. I was told that there are some products on the shelf that have a guarantee that they will make you pass, but that sounds like it might hurt the engine more than it would benefit me.

I'm going in a minute to talk with the owner and get some new wipers(GA's finally getting some rain). Thanks for the help, and if Need be The drive from suwanee to chambodia would warm the cats up PLENTY I assume to get the test done with the car ready right?

EDIT - I checked all of the vacuum lines and nothing looks sketchy.

Drive your car hard for a while before taking it to smog. Don't wait around while your cat cools off either. If they make you wait, drive around the block for a little while.

*edit* whoops, just read your last post. it appears you know this.

It would be ready after a 20 minute spirited drive.
These "sniff" tests are very, very easy to mess up. I watched a guy mess mine up at that shop I told you about last October. When he couldn't get it right an older gentleman came out, got behind the wheel and it passed with flying colors. Right RPM and speed made the difference he said.

I just replaced the spark plugs and filter b/c they needed done anyways and there were 2 cylnders that look that they might not have had sufficient spark. It sounds and runs smoother now. I'm going to run the stuff I bought at autozone through the car tomorrow in my rounds of trying to get a job to pay for a new car(01 330Ci) and then run down to chamblee. If you have a number or address that'd be great!

Get a cheap air filter and soak it in water.

Put it in damp, it'll lower your nox.

                Or so I've heard.

If you are getting insufficient spark, you may want to check for intake leaks.

You can also keep the car running on idle while waiting. Keeps the cat hot. Something I learned from the tech doing the test.

You want to know the correct fix for a failed smog Honda? Clean the EGR system. Or replace the Cat. There isn't much else to go wrong. Just drill out those cloggy passages and see that smog man say pass.
