    Space-saver compartment.

    How much do you guys think that think weights?
    The compartment were the space saver goes in.

                      To this day pretty much every BMW still gets a full-sized spare. My brother's '98 M3 has one as well as a co-worker's '03 325i.

                      Something that's becoming more uncommon these days with every manufacturer putting those bicycle tires in the trunk and calling them spares.

                        Not really to this day. The E46 doesnt have a spare at all. It has that Mobility Kit (a really expensive way of saying "Slime and a compressor."

                        That "compartment" is actually part of the unibody. To remove it would involve cutting and welding.
                        Im now E30less.

                            Want to have some fun? Put a can of Fix-a-Flat in a tire and take it to get it balanced, and see the techs scratch their heads for a good while. :)

                              The old E36 318ti also had a bicycle tire for a "spare".
