    S38 swap, anyone?



    I wonder how one accumulates all of that stuff. He's apparently got two S38 B35's and one S38 B36, a few G280's, and (much to my delight) a bunch of M-System I caps.

    Only on eBay.

      yikes, blurry pics FTL. If you're selling $4000 engines, couldn't you invest in a $99 digital camera?

        Yeah, found that one. At a grand now, I imagine it'll go for about the cost of one of the engines in good condition. Good investment to get yourself one and make the money back selling the others. If I was local, I'd definitely go have a look.

            I actually know a bit about this one thanks to my friends Jack (Jax S50 here) and Saliya (www.euromcars.com.) Saliya sold him the blue M5...the listing is still here on his site.

            The guy's name was Andrew and unfortunately soon after he bought the blue car from Saliya he had a massive heart attack and died. :( Now his Dad is liquidating his estate. You can't be too hard on him, he's selling his dead son's possessions for crying out loud. How'd you like to do that?

            It's a sad story, especially since he was such an enthusiast and nice guy.

              Wow, thanks for shedding some light on the subject man. Quite a shame to have to bury your own son, let alone sell stuff that his son was undoubtedly pretty well-versed with. I'll try to post this up on M5Board to help the guy out.

              I guess I understand this correctly, does he live in Indiana and his son's parts are in California?

                    I'd say 99% of the people here don't have the desire to keep an S38 running, let alone the custom fabrication required (to do it properly) to install it into an e30.

                    Highly modified front subframe
                    Custom Mounts front/rear
                    Custom Driveshaft
                    Custom Wiring
                    Custom Exhaust
                    Notching the Frame and/or modifying/replacing the thermostat housing.

                      not to mention the $$. anyone ever had an s38 rebuilt? its about 10 grand to do it right. i just spend 4 grand getting just the head redone on my 88 m5, and only 12 of the valves needed replacement.
                      without knowing the history on any of the motors, its a total crapshoot, and they probably all need some degree of rehabilitation.

                        Just think, they were shipped from Hawaii. Could have lots of rusty issues while on a boat. Says they came from running totaled cars.

                          This is exactly why I spent more and bought an entire wrecked e34 M5, just the service history alone, perfect compression and leakdown was well worth the additional price.

                            $10k at least, my father's was more than $15k when it was all said and done, and that doesn't even include a G280. They're expensive motors, but if properly maintained, they are just as solid as any other motor. Hopefully the seller has at least some of the records from the car(s).

                              I hate how you slowly and very subtly leak these juicy details.

                              As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
