Would a shoddy o2 sensor cause a bumpy idle symptom? Sometimes it idles just fine, it's just a little high.. 1000 rpm iirc.

yess it does cause bumpy idle ....just pull the harness and you will be able to tell if its the o2 ....the 84 has a single wire....they suck ass....hence why the 85 switched to the 2 wire plug....if you have anymore questions feel free to PM me

I agree with Trey. You will sink so much money into an early 318 just to have a decently fun driver.. it will be ridiculous. Early 318's just have the worst of everything-- drum brakes, bad motor, small transmission, wimpy diff, and the list goes on. Takes a lot of time and effort to turn that around.

yes it does suck that it has drums ...and no ABS and the motor is a bit slow...but the motor is reliable ...and the trans can handle good HP and ive had no issues with my car and its 250k the diff sucks but you can get a 3.73 lsd cheap and its great for that car... 318's are about the same performance wise to an E

M20's are also reliable motors, and G260's can handle enough power to satisfy most who haven't opted for an M/S5x swap.

Why does the 318 owner want to trade? Think about it. There must be issues if he is willing to take a car that looks like yours for one that looks much better.

318s are FUN LOL. I am close to 20k on my of HARD use/abuse and it keeps on going with shitty compression and leak down and it keeps on going.

Parts for m10s are cheap as well, and it's good on mpg. Throw 3.73-4.10 on it, rev to 4k-6k all day long and you'll have fun .

So after doing some more driving i've come to the conclusion to not do it. The eta i have is in rough shape but i do have all the pieces missing from it. The eta came with euro grilles, euro valance, and a euro lip that i have off while i paint the vehicle and what not.

My buddy kyle has an e28 535is so he had no problem parting with this 318. After looking more closely it's going to take a shitload of work to get it to where my eta is already at.

In short it's like this, 100-200 to get an exhaust put on the eta and emissions tested to get on the road. or 200-600 bucks to get the 318 roadworthy. The clutch in it is slippery as fuck, you can punch it in 2nd gear and it'll slip like a mofo.

I'm kinda thinking if i play my cards right kyle might just gift me the car. he doesn't seem that interested in it and he let me take it home without even giving him the key or title to the eta. Thanks for all the great replies guys.

Meh M10s are slow as hell. My eta was way faster than any M10 I've ever driven, even with 200k+ on the odo.

I dont think the G240 or little diff will handle any serious power. My friend lunched his G240 pretty quick with his 300 horse turbo 2.0l. In less than 2 weeks.

I have another friend that budget-swapped an S50 into his iS. The G260 handles a ton of abuse and hasnt given him a bit of trouble.

Just think of it as a clean shell, everything attached to it is weak. IMO..

Yeah, drum brakes killed it for me. I guess for some reason i thought my eta was at the bottom of the totem pole. ... guess not.
