    If you don't have AAA

Its damn nice. I think like a year ago I upgraded to the "plus" package (I think Its called like RV now). Its $77 a year and they will tow you up to 100 miles (vs the 5 miles for regular) I believe you get 5 tows a year.

Should be pretty obvious to most of you to get it, but if you don't I suggest it. I just "abuse" it to tow all my shit around for me. I think I have used it 4 times this year moving cars about 50 miles each time. Much cheaper than actually paying for a tow all the time.

They also have a lot of other stuff, but I don't really use anything else.

Yep it is a defiantly a nice thing to have, used it to tow my car to a body shop and back for paint.

I have roadside assistance through my insurance with State Farm. It costs like $2 a month and I get 5 tows a year, unlimited dollar/distance.

Definitely worth it. I'll look into that State Farm thing though, since I already have State Farm I think...

But AAA has saved me twice already, and several friends, though not through mine, but know that they could have used mine if I wanted.

My girlfriend has it, and she's got a lil economy car. Her family just lets me use theirs, and it doesn't cost me anything.

If you own an e30 and don't have it, or have access to it. You suck.

Whatever you do, don't get GMAC's Roadside Assistance. Sounds like a great deal ($59/year, unlimited tows in any car you're driving) until you actually need to use it - I used it twice without issue, but then was told on another attempt that there were "no towing companies in the area that would accept GMAC work orders" so I was basically S.O.L. and had to foot the bill for a tow.

Keep in mind I was in a CITY with a population of 15,000+ people, not even a rural area. WTF?

Oh, but they do have a reimbursement program...which takes 8-12 weeks and only applies if you own the car. :hitler:

Needless to say I'll be paying a little extra and switching back to AAA next year.

IMO, AAA is for wimps (minus the tows. I like that)

I see soooo many people use AAA for stupid stuff. Like tire repair, "outta gas", batteries. Forget that stuff.

But tows are OK I guess

I'd use them for changing a tire if I was on my way to a formal banquet or some other event where I was dressed up. I'm not afraid to get dirty or sweat completely through my clothes but I don't think that I want to do that in a tux.

I get free towing with my car insurance, so whatever. in 6 years I've never been stranded my my car - I suppose it's inevitable, but I'm pretty in tune with how it runs so i'm not very worried. plus, my daily commute is only like 5 miles..

If you don't think it'll happen, the first time I used it, was because a gasket blew, the piece was $1.50, but it made all of my coolant leak out, about 20 miles from home. Second time was mostly my fault.

Some of the branches also offer some dmv services like title changes and other little shit you dread going to the dmv with.

I don't let things go to the point that they break. I can't afford to, everything has to be in good running order all the time - anybody who tracks their cars often will tell you that. I know the service interval for a timing belt is about 50k for example, but I'll be damned if I've ever put more than 20k on one. I change my oil when it's dirty, not at an imaginary mileage point - etc. etc.

When I was still driving my '91 AWD Talon, my clutch slave decided to blow and leave me without the ability to shift about 5 miles from my apartment and about 50 miles from my parents' garage where I'd be able to fix it. AAA towed it there for me, then I borrowed my dad's pickup for a few days. On the way to fix the Talon and return the pickup, the transmission blew in it. Another 40-mile tow...AAA was pretty cool about it, though.
