Really? My car is an early body, Motronic 1.0, but that is what the plug looks like.

Unscrewed the black plastic cover, took a large paper clip and doubled the ends of the paper clip by bending them with pliers so the ends of the clip would fit snugly, inserted the ends of the paper clip into the #7 and the #19 pin holes (They are actually numbered if you look real close) turned the key to the "On" position (But don't start the car!) and the lights reset almost instantaneously.

Removed key, removed paper clip, screwed the cap back on, closed the hood and was done.

Different year models will have different Diag connectors, so make sure you do it right otherwise something bad might happen.

The 1 amp inline fuse is a good idea. I was going to use a length of solder in addition to the paper clip as a "fuse link" but didn't have time and I don't know if that would work.

      What year is your car?

I think it was different on my 86 es

Maybe connector numbers 1 and 7 for older E30's/ECU's?
Thanks for the helpful tip. I got a 90' 325ic.
