    Don't do it. It's a trap.
You're gonna get into it, realize it's a huge pita, then wish you could back out but you can't! Cuz his car is all over your garage and his 2k is already in your pocket.

Besides... who in their right mind puts JDM parts into a european car? It's blasphemy. You should refuse on principle alone. ;)

Or its done, he takes it for the test drive, and never comes back. You lose a friend, he saves $5K, people have done more for less.

Just saying, friends+money doesn't ever work.

Yeah, that's an entirely different matter.
Personally, I wouldn't let a friend pay me to do his swap, I'd force him to do it himself and I'd help.

But aside from that, if something seriously bad happened after the swap, it wouldn't be a far stretch to blame your friend who did it for you, not paid, or especially paid.

Almost always I'd agree though, friends+money doesn't mix.

Unless I absolutly knew what I was doing, and had a pretty good contract/agreement worked out, I wouldn't touch that. I agree with what your saying, just help him do it, he learn something that way, and you simply charge him per hour for the things he can't do or won't help with. So you'll help him out as a friend, get the old engine out etc, but any fabrication, sourcing of info, and PITA work you charge him for. So I guess waht I'm saying is charge him $3000, and have him do $2000 worth a work. That way the bill is lower, your doing a nice thing, and if something goes wrong it aint all on you...

What if something did go wrong? Issues that are never worked out? and once its done its not running right etc. You dont want to hear "I paid you $5k, why wont it run" and crap like that, when it might not even be swap related. Seems a bit more than "I'l throw you a $150 and some beers and you help me swap out my shocks and springs cause you know how".

Does he know how stupid either of those would be? Both of those would have the sole purpose of being different. The V12 is huge, and it wouldn't drive like you would want it too...power is good and all, but you have to think about weight and size too. The RB, sure it would drive fine, but it would be a lot of work for no reason. It would be a lot cheaper and easier to swap in an s50 and turbo it, and then it would be easier to find parts for it later too.

Does he even have that kinda of dough to pay up?

                  I'd work out a contract.

I think you'd be better off putting in a V8 from an e34 540i. Mayber you'll get lucky and find a six speed trans too.

You obviously dont understand. when its not your money, not your car, and not your face people see driving it, you dont need to give a shit.

when you ever get a life to get off your ass, off the forums 24/7 and stop watching peoples court, you would turn some wrenches yourself and figure out that if you know so much and you have done it before, you can take that experience and turn it into hard fresh cash in your pocket. try that sometime, then come talk some shit. seriously, people will start getting banned for this kind of bullshit, i would watch my ass.

Shhhh. i dont want to give others MY dream plans.

                        _______

but on a serious note: if he trys to stiff me out of money, it would be going to court. they got some cash, they got a business and i have one of the best layers in the area... in the end, i will win if it comes to it. as for cash, the car will not be driven or touched untill payment in full. if not, i have 72 hours to wait then i can get a new title and turn it over to myself, or part the car out and make more than what i should have been paid. obviously nobody knows the legal route in most matters in this forum. i am a profectionest, a hard worker, and i have patientes to win it in the end.

All in all, its his car, money, and reputation on the line, and possibly his business, home, and assets he has. Texas doesnt fuck around, were out for blood when we have to be. we hit hard, even when your down and almost out.

I would appriciate it if people would post RESPECTABLE and accurate responses. i dont want replies from board users and abusers who dont have any experience in this matter, as it doesnt help me nor anybody else who comes through for refrences. sorry to be a dick, but a few people, including moderators are getting tired of it.

No, I understand. What I said is that I wouldn't do it at all for pay. Maybe some, but it'd be better to encourage him to do it and let him pay you to help or something. If it screws up afterward, the liability could fall to you and that's seriously something you wouldn't want.

And if he's your friend, don't you care at all what's in his best interest?

By asking if you are charging enough is asking everyone else to plan the swap for you?

I say charge him for a rear wheel bearing, then multiply by 40.
