    Lucas Oil Stabalizer

Well I dont post often but I thought I'd post this.
I currently work at a TA truckstop fixing Tractors and Trailers. I do it all there but I've noticed alot of people adding 1-2 gallons of Lucas oil stabilizer
after and oil change and alot of drivers swear by it. I began to think about how it would act in my car and figured well, I do have some blowby in cylinders 4 and 5 so a quart wouldnt hurt with 1 oil change. Now Lucas claims an increase in fuel mileage.. which I didnt believe at first because the stuff is so so so thick. Then I realized that I now have Cylinders that are sealing muuch better noticing by the cleanliness of the plugs, hp increase, and smother idle. My car needs a valve adjustment bad and used to tap loud for around 3 seconds before the oil primed up to the cyl head. Now the lucas is just so thick it stays up there. The only worry I had was for the oil to sludge from heat and being so thick but havent had a problem yet. I noticed the power increase easily because I could only chirp 2nd gear when shifting fast. Now I can spin 2nd and chirp third pretty easy.

The idle is smother and my fuel mileage went from 23.5 to 27ish. BTW its a 87' 325 with 265,000 miles. I havent saw highway mileage yet because I dont get out enough but Im sure its over 30 which isnt uncommen in the economy e30. Figured I'd post my experience in case some of you were thinking of it. Oh! and btw its been knocking for around 20k too. So its hangin in there for now. Let me know all your guys experiences with it.

I have heard a lot of people say the same things your are saying. And realistically it makes sense that the valve click less because of the film of oil that is left in the head even after sitting and getting cold for a while. Also, I think everyone that hasn't used it has definitely played with the Lucas display in auto parts stores with the little handle that turns the gears inside the clear case. Personally I've never tried it but if i hear enough good things about it, I may have to try it seeing that my shop stocks it for all of our diesel trucks and tractors.

what does everyone else think? I would like to hear more as well.

I use Lucas motor oil additive and I have seen good things. My car has 256k on it and I have changed the oil since I puchased the car at 189. I put a magnetic drain plug in it. When using normal 20W-50, it would have a lot of gunk on it. When using the additive I didnt get anything on it and my piston slap was substantially reduced. I use more in addtive during the summer months (a full bottle) and less during the winter months (have a bottle).

I use it also, it keeps the valves quiet, I'll probably use it in all my future oil changes.

-I use it in my Olds Aurora, works great and helped my blow-by! I have yet to use it in the e30, tho. I've been useing Castrol GTW 20w-50, but I thing it a little too thick for winter, so I want to switch to Rotella 15w-40, maybe I'll add some Lucas too.

-I do use, however, Lucas Power Steering additive and Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner in my both e30 and in my 01 Toyota Camry. All great products!

this stuff makes your oil foamy. no thanks, but maybe worth it on an engine that's just about toast anyway.

SpecM, on Rotella -I noticed it last time I was about to pick up oil. Any info on it? I was tempted to switch from my usual synthetic. Extra additives packages? They only had 15w-40 though :(

Ive been using it for years now and will always use it.. and to the people that think it foams up cause they saw it on that Bob the oil guys site.. his test is very wrong engine oil pumps do not work like that.

I use the lucas synthetic additive in my m42 and it has never been quieter... I also will always use it.

I have always wanted to have a pre-oilier for all my motors but this is the closest to pre oiling I have got...

I still say it is in all major oil to start with (and if you look at the demonstration gears all have oil on them not just the lucas) the stuff is for people who don't do regular oil changes. I have done teardowns on engines that have used it, and have found wear same as without it, I have also done teardowns on engines with almost 300k and regular synthetic oil changes that showed almost no wear. That tells me use synthetic, and change it regularly

yea, it only comes in strait 30w (for lawn mower and tractors) and in 15w-40. A lot of diesel guys use it. I wouldn't switch from synthetic to it, it's not THAT good! Its probably just AS good as Castrol GTX, tho, just cheaper! ($11.99/gallon iirc)

btw Rotella does make a synthetic oil, but only in 5w-40. Its in a dark blue jug. And it's only 19.99 a gallon!
