This is why any deer within 1000 miles of any roadway should be executed via helicopter-mounted machine-gun kill-squads. NO other animal will JUMP out in front of a moving vehicle but deer. They will literally wait there for you, and JUMP out at the last second, intending you DOOM...

Seriously, a tip that might just save your life. If a deer jumps out in front of your car, DO NOT hit the brakes. NAIL the throttle and PUNT the deer off the roadway. If you hit the brakes, you run the risk of it rolling onto the hood, through the windshield, and KILLING YOU. Nail the throttle, raising the front of the car as much as possible, and PUNT the poor innocent stupid animal out of your way. At this point your car is already a goner, and you are simply trying to save your LIFE. Cars are replaceable, YOU are not!

Be safe out there and watch out for those evil fickin deer a-holes, THEY are watching out for YOU! ;-p

If a LOCAL is gonna buy this car, I have the alpine weissII hood and bumper for it. FREE.

I don't wanna see that car at the yards!

I think I even have spare bumper tracks that bolt to the front valence that I'd be happy to gift to the picker-upper.

Actually, I saw a segment on Mythbusters re the "punt the deer" theory where they recreated the scenario both ways and proved it's better to hit the brakes.

But, if you WANT to speed up, I guess that's your decision...

orly? i need to watch more tv... ;-p

it probably depends on what kind of car you are in. most e30s are low as it is, not to mention lowered ones. in any event i will err on the side of PUNT if i can reverse natural instinct to hit the brakes...

i remember college roadtrip driving through northern wyoming on the way to Yellowstone in my 87 GLI 16v Jetta with 160w Hella-1000 driving lights on at dusk, and the DOZENS of scumbag blend-into-the-countryside deer just WAITING at the roadside to jump into my way. I kept the highbeams on and covered the brakes, and those bastards just sat there grinding their teeth at my stunning brightblind anti-lunge tactics... god i hate deer :P

deer make REAALLY good pepperoni sticks.. seriously, way better than beef.

and uh, that's totally fixable. $50 fender, cut a core support out of a car in a junkyard ($50?), new hood, a few plastic bits... Not to say it's not going to be a shitload of work. I took me about 4 months to rebuild my car from very similar damage.

Alright, well it looks like i'll probably be selling it as a whole package.

To those that say it's an easy fix, why do you think the estimate was so outrageously high? If I had the time to do this myself for cheap, I probably would, but I fear that it could get too expensive.

Right now I'm in a weird limbo with the car's title and registration. Before it was hit, I paid all the fees at the DMV but wasn't issued a new title because I didn't have a recent enough smog certificate. The car ended up failing smog and I was working on getting it to pass when the accident happened. I have yet to report it as salvaged, as I'm not sure how to handle this. If I submit the plates and all that, then the car won't be legally driveable so I'm not sure how a buyer would handle that. Any advice?

P.S. the blue circles were chips in the windshield.

its going to be hard to do anything with the car without having the title if you already turned it into the DMV. if its in limbo with your name all over it, and you have no pink slip in hand, the new buyer would have a hell of a time getting the car in their name. do you still have the old pink slip?

if the insurance company cut you a check to pay out on the car, and you bought it back from them, then the car is now salvaged in the DMV system. meaning any new owner will have the get the car inspected before it can be registered for road use again. i dont know if the state referee system is involved with that process, but if they are then new owner is SOL, because CA just cut the budget for referee's and dont offer any of those services anymore.

Ref isnt involved, just a couple inspections that are done by certified shops.

What ever became of this? Unless the title was turned over to the insurance company it won't be a salvage, if you get a junk slip then there is no title any more, JS must be turned back to DMV with inspection to recieve salvage title.

This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.

Sorry there haven't been any updates. I've been super busy with school and college applications but now that those are over I'm now looking to find a buyer. I'd like to sell the car AS A WHOLE if possible. I ended up getting a junk slip for the car so the buyer would need to tow it away. PM me if you're interested or know someone who might be.
