If you are going to do anything to the e30... it should be in this order...

    1) Springs and billy sports
    2) Sway bars
    3) E30 M3 control arm bushings

Trust me trust me... these first three should be the first mods you do if you will do any mods at all. Put those in your car, and the way it will feel in the twisties compared to now is not even comparable. After you do 1,2, and 3 you'll jump in an e36 or e46 with the same mods and truelly see why people fall in love with e30s.

I was more than fortunate to have mine given to me with 98K on the odo. I've had it for 3 years and have cherished every minute of working on it as much as I have the awesome things its been with me through. The design, power, and lack of the more luxurious accouterments give these cars a more raw experience and feel that I simply did not feel in driving an E36.

Throw studs on these and power through the snow, even without an IX. Keep these things full of oil and regular maintenance and they will not die. Unless of course, you r3v it.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.

well since the only real difference is the engine you could pretty easily put an M20B25 in it, or if you want even more power you could do a stroker or a swap...

I fell in love looking at an e30 convertible as a teenager and always dreamed of owning one. Now that I have one I couldn't be happier with such a great daily driver.

Great lines on the body and the classic four round headlights are unmistakable.

Might not be the fastest car on the road but I have other options to take care of a need for speed.

Because there is 90,000 threads like this one and only 15 that say why "not" an e30.

                      What are 'billy sports'?

I have not looked into any after market parts yet for my e30. I have been working on keeping it running smooth. What can I expect springs and sway bars to cost? I have seen them in the sale section but I don't know what is good to buy and what is not, what is a good deal and what is just to much for a used part. Probably the two things I don't know enough about. 1. what are good mod parts. 2. what are good part prices.

:) Thats why i said mods in my post. What you are talking about is maintenance.

Billy sports are Bilstein Sport shocks. Rather on the stiff side, but pair them with a set of H&R sport or race springs and they will put a smile on your face.

As far as prices go.... i suggest getting the shocks new, which will set you back about $400 shipped. Sometimes you can see them for less. New H&R's if i recall correctly, are $230ish without shipping (someone correct me). And new sways depend on who you go with, but you're looking at around $400ish. Some place i know sometimes sell packages of springs and shocks, or all 3 which should set you back just under a grand.

As far as used prices... thats really up to what you want to spend for a used parts. I'm guessing 50-65% of the new price.

cuz I am the original owner and I will never sell... and the e30 is the perfect platform to build a great peformance car; light, large aftermarket, Information from BMW on how to mod and race them from their DTM program, and an engine bay large enough to swallow any BMW engine.... oh and they arent bad looking either. IMHO the looks of the e30 are holding up a lot better over time than the e36.

                            My fave mods:
                            Z3 steering rack

I couldn't afford an e36 in HS, and dad just sold our e28 at the time, so I had to get something else. A e30 was the next sensible BMW to buy. Its been a great car since, so I have no regrets.
