Please go away, you're not educating anyone with your copious amounts of racing experience.
what do you mean by slide and loose traction? yes occasionally an f1 driver will get the tail out and be able to correct it, thats more of a mistake than a controlled slide, and not what im talking about. but the cars really arent in a drift going around corners, they might be at a very very slight angle, but nothing even the driver will notice.
you ever notice how when an f1 car spins, instead of the car slowly loosing more and more traction, they seem to just loose it instantly go into a spin (atleast most the time)? thats because the second they go past that tires threshold, the tire looses most of its grip almost instantly. where in a normal car without a shit ton of downforce and tires that cost as much as my car, the car will go past that threshold but it will loose grip slower, and the spin wont be so instantaneous, its still gonna be a very sudden drop in traction. but not nearly as much as an f1 car.
really just think about it, look how much rally cars slide on ice races, then snow, then dirt, then pavement, then look at cars on a track, as they get more downforce. they go from drifting almost completely sideways to pretty much no drift at all based on how much traction they have.
so anyway formula 1 cars pretty much dont drift at all. and its nothing the driver will notice.

jesus christ, everyone shut the fuck up and stop trying to discredit this kid cause the guy who posted above you is trying to.
the kid knows what he is talking about when driving on a surface with less traction that tarmac. i dont agree with his 15 degrees of angle on tarmac though but he has the right idea.

But nobody wants him doing this on public roads. He want start something in the track forum and discuss how to set up his car for ice racing but we don't want him drifting around with his rear end crossing over into other lanes. Even if he is good, who knows how well the person comming in the opposite direction can drive.sigpic

ive gotten stopped by police twice, once in my car and once in a friends, miles and miles away from town, in areas with good visibility where you can see cars coming about 1/2 mile in each direction. both times they just said dont do this in town. a couple days after i got my license, my dad went with me and had me drift around in snow for about 3 hours on these same roads.
think of it like offroad trails, people go out there to drift instead of offroad, its normal, and nobody cares at all. not even the cops.

you know which bmw is good in the snow? The Bavaria. I don't know why, probably just the weight distribution+skinny tires. My Bavaria had old dunlops on it and it would go anywhere in the snow. It would drift perfectly with no effort whatsoever. It also had awesome brakes.
Dry weather handling is good; it's a smooth car, not really your first choice for a point-and-shoot weapon but it will really surprise you. I can't imagine what sort of horrible driving you'd have to pull of to put one in a ditch. Not that I care, of course.
