Can someone help me? I pulled a mtor out of a 95 ti that had a 6cyl swap in it. Wanted to know if I could check the serial numbers some where to see what engine it is. Thanks.

Are you sure about what you're saying? I don't think they had a 6 cylinder in 1995?

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

Look for a VIN number on the block and run a carfax is what I would do. Otherwise stampings on the head/block might shed some light on what it is.

There were E36 Compact's in Europe with the M50, they were referred to as the 323ti (produced from 1/97 to 8/00.) However, the pictured motor looks very much like an M52 (judging by the intake manifold.)

                    ^ what he said.

You might be lucky and get the info off of the white sticker that's on the back of the head or block, just above the flywheel. It's a white plastic sticker that has a bunch of info on it, and somewhere on there MAY be the engine code or the VIN code that will tell you what engine it is. Either take a good pic of that sticker + post it up or post up what's on the sticker and we'll figure it out for you.... ;)

agreed, it is a single-vanos m50/52 with an 96+ mani, at least

Yeah, obviously there were no M50's during their 1/97 - 8/00 production run. I meant to say M52 B25, same motor that was used in the late model E36 323i/is.
