I drive a vert, and I dream of owning a hard top. I'm sick of wind noise and a motor screaming in my ear.

I also drive a vert...can't afford it right now, but I WILL be getting a hard top for it before next winter...at that point, it's a win-win. You and I have a similar climate, so the top won't come down as much as you'd like, but just wait for summer...

That's what I keep telling myself anyway, but right now I keep thinking about trading it for a coupe...I just really want more power and performance...which makes a lot more sense in a coupe.

      Ask yourself these questions:

How much will you have the top down? Is it worth the trade-off when the top is up?
If you have the soft top, are you ok with lots of noise at all times?
Are you ok with constantly worrying about your car getting messed with at night?
How much do you think you'll get into the performance side of the car?

FWIW, my vert doesn't leak either, and I'm in Seattle. Oh and get heated seats, it will add to your top down time!

If you are ever down here and want to drive a cabby, shoot me a pm...you're more than welcome...it's a low-mile, clean example...

It's posts like that ^^ that make me want a coupe less for fear of association.

              Witty response.

Like I said, the weight difference isn't an issue unless you're deluding yourself into thinking you have a high-performance car.

              You don't.

I've had both, and this is a tough one to answer. Its up to you. I loved them both, and which ever one you get trust me you'll love it.

Almost any other configuration of car?

                        4-door? Touring?

                        I don't think so.

Generally, 2 door, manual trans, RWD drive cars fall into the "Sports Car" category, and convertibles are usually regarded as the more "sporty" of the two.

And why the assumption that I'm "butt hurt" - I'm just pointing out some facts.

maybe, but cabbies always seem more like chick cars to me.

and I drive a 4 door ix, so I know where you are coming from. lol

Ya usually when people think of a "sports car" they usually think of a convertible and not a two door sedan. I do agree that if you want to take it to a track or autocrossing then a coupe would better suit you.

You can just tell because youre questioning anyone that says anything remotely negative. By the way that youre responding to every dig at convertibles and asking questions in a way as to be sure you arent left without stating your trivial facts. Its obvious that you are taking this really seriously. Just because some people dislike your type of car. I said "sporty", not sports car. I know there are roadsters and those cars are convertibles as in without a top. But thats a different story. Those cars are 2 seaters that are built that way from the beginning. Im talking about cars that come with hard tops that are usually just modified by the factory by chopping the top off. Convertibles have many factors that take away from the performance of the car (and being more expensive on top of it), its that simple. Theyre great for cruising the beach with your dog and your lady friend and looking cool, dont get me wrong. I just personally dont value the things that convertibles are mainly built for. Thats all.
