I'm in also. I've been looking at autopower, kirk, and VSR bars but haven't settled yet. I'd definitely rather support a r3v sponsor.

    What's this headache bar?

Gotcha, makes sense. Anyway I'm in for a roll bar with harness bar...maybe bolt in cage. Depends how much money I have after I come back from Germany

I like this idea of using the seatbelt mounting points. Watching....

Interested, but like z31 said, more than 600 and your gonna lose out to the other ones from a lot of people because of price.

i've been in the market for 6months or so for an 6-8pt roll cage BUT my catch is finding one who's front bars would go through the dash and not be next to my legs.

Kirk has that option for a little bit more. I project around $850 shipped and installed w/ door bars (not nascar style) installed by me.
                No more e30s for me.

Well... Here is the skinny on this.

I had a fabricator (local kid into Baja Racer stuff) look my design and specs. over and he just got back to me.

To produce a bolt-in cage (similar to Autopower's but with completely different hard attaching points) will cost just about $1300 bucks a unit harware and all (shipping cost would blow big time as well).

                  Is it "Give up" time?

I doubt anyone is going to spend that much on a cage when they can be had for less than half the price elsewhere. I know you make great products but are you building the e30 to jump off a cliff and get hit by a train?

I'd like to see a pick of your design as full cages usually go for ~1300 at a local fabricator.

I think you would be a lot better off if you made a cage that say 15% of the board would be intrested in, instead of like .05% You make great stuff but you would be a lot more sucsessfull in this market w/ cheaper & less over built parts.

                      ...
True $1300 will get you a solid weld in cage ... Actually about one G would do it... Not something you would want happening in your street car though... So for a "slick" bolt in the price isn't all that bad...

And I might post drawings when I totally and absolutely 100% give up on doing it.

Now the over built statement....? Hmmmm.

                      .

Well i don't know that overbuilding is the case.. But i know the price is a factor. I think a Headache bar would be cool, assuming its a good deal cheaper.

True... It's kind of a "show thing" though... So in reality the one Autopower sells is fine for that...

And why reinvent the square wheel?

...Sometimes I get a little out of control with perfecting things.

Well maybe come at it from a little less of perfectionist standpoint.. like the honeycomb thing.

Make it so that under the circumstances e30s would be subject to, with the kind of mods the e30 crowd does, maybe a little atocrossing and tracking, and build it to fit those needs

Im just throwing out ideas, which may not even make sense. Im writing a paper on Self-actualization and Maslow's hierarchy of needs and my brain is starting to get cloudy.

Giving your self brain damage huh? (Maslow was a putz)

                              On another point:

The overbuilt statement keeps ringing in my head...

Perhaps I need to back up and rethink this...

I know why I'd want a roll cage...

Perhaps my original question should have been:

"Why would you want a roll cage in your car?"

With a subtitle of "How much is your life worth to you anyway?"

(PS Not picking on you Stephan.... and that grid was from about 18 years ago... The hex grid does work way better )

(I can see this blowing up already...where is Heeter and Blunt?)

Well if your's isnt overbuilt, and is whats necessary, then thats just what a good bolt in costs, and thats that [at least in my eyes]

And the other person im writing about is Frankl. dont know how i feel about him just yet.
